It would be great if the thunderbird app launches and stays in background, like the telegram and the teams app, so that the user could get new mail notification without having bring the thunderbird to foreground. Currently, in gnome (I have no idea of other desktop environments), the thunderbird opens in the dock and not in the top bar. In contrast, apps like telegram and microsoft teams launch as an icon on the top bar and could be brought to the dock/foreground by either double clicking on the tray icon or by choosing the open option from the dropdown menu triggered by single clicking the tray icon. On quitting the foreground app, the app minimises to the tray and not quit directly. Quitting can be done only from the dropdown menu (it is a selectable option and not a norm). If similar functionality could were to be available in thunderbird, the mail client could notify the user of new mails without fail and there would not be a fear of missing out on mail if the app is not ritualistically opened and the mails checked for. Ps: The bluemail email client has a similar feature, but it has to launch in the foreground at least once. Which gets annoying as it has to be closed every time on boot and at times it gets uneasy to show mails to bystanders, just because the system has just booted. Thanking you in advance!!
