It would make the browser much safer, plus Edge and Chrome already support this feature

@whyissherunning  that's a good idea and Firefox already has Primary Password (which is the same as Device Password in Chrome/Edge). The only improvement we need is to add option to "Always ask permission".

@SergPassword-based authentication has become obsolete, but Firefox, which promotes security, still relies on it?

I can not promise anything yet, but I can tell we are looking into what it would take to enable combination of biometrics from OS and primary password. Biometrics alone has it's own troubles, like what would happen when user's biometric data is stolen? It's kind of hard to replace fingers or change eyes 🙂

I would like to have additional security such as a password or two-step validation to enter the saved passwords section. I think it is something extremely important and delicate and should not be within the reach of anyone or at least it should not be so easy to enter

I agree but only if "device password" includes using Windows Hello or the equivalent on other platforms.

Firefox should just use the same authentication as for credit cards.

From Settings: "Require Windows authentication to autofill, view, or edit stored credit cards."

Every time you open firefox, you will be prompted to log in with the master password, which is very troublesome. I wonder if you can enter the master password when you need to view the saved passwords, and you don’t need it in other cases
