This would be a good idea to reach new users. There are already a few other browsers on there such as Vivaldi and Opera, and I think Firefox should be an option for users too.
- Firefox works PERFECTLY on Huawei devices. No adjustments are needed.
- Releasing to AppGallery is FREE and the same apk file can be accepted that you provide to Google
- Presence in AppGallery would ensure automatic app updates to ALL Huawei Users while at the moment it requires manual updates as a sideloaded app
- Firefox is the BEST browser for Huawei devices, the only one that supports bookmark and password sync between mobile and desktop. The default browser cannot sync bookmarks between PC and mobile, and cannot sync passwords at all, not even between Huawei mobile devices. Firefox CAN!
i think publishing Firefox for Android on the Huawei AppGallery could boost the userbase, as well as allow those who use a huawei-phone and can't/don't want to use the Google Playstore to receive all updates automatically.
I understand that there are sec concerns with Hueawei, but Firefox would actually resolve a few of them. I am unsure about getting it from outside the store though...
An advantage of the AppGallery is that this market is very far from being saturated.
Now is the best time to release FireFox on this market. Before someone else gets and holds a monopoly over Internet Browsers apps on Huawei devices and Ecosystems.
On the other hand, for the Google and Apple ecosystems, the market is already saturated with many competitors, hence why FireFox keeps not gaining too much grounds against giant multinational companies.
The more Mozilla waits, the further behind FireFox will be in the race for market share on the AppGallery.
Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Bing are already available on this app marketplace and they are grabbing a lot of users due to lack of competitions.
@JonDoes this idea have to go though the whole ideas process? Unlike most of the ideas on this platform, this one is not requesting any technical changes/enhancements to Firefox. This is more of a process change to simply add Huawei AppGallery to the list of appstores that Firefox for Android is deployed to. Given that the underlying Huawei system is Android, no changes to Firefox will need to be made to facilitate this idea.
