I am receiving so much emails and if I haven't read them before they are coloured blue in bold font. If I have read them but not answered them yet, they are black in bold font. If the program does crash or has to be closed by some reason while there are still messages in blue, they are black after the restart although I have not read them yet.

For me it would be really helpfull if the really never read messages do keep visible as unread ( so that they keep the blue colour ) and that if I read it I could change the colour of it to a color which I know what to do. Do for example; if I have read it, but not answered it yet and have no time at that moment, but later, I want to color them as red or yellow, or whatever color.

Or is there already an add-on who can do that?

I had, no... still have this problem. I'm using dark system theme and unread is white bold, read - white regular and there is no enough contrast between read/unread and it's hard to visually separate them, only by green dot. There was a moment when I created filter if status is "read" then tag message in color of my choose, but this somehow bite me and I disable this. But if would be possible set read mail color transparency (or something) then it would be so niiiice!

Remember - I disabled this filter because this made tagging meaningless - all messages was tagged. Resume - read messages set in other custom color, but without tag flag

Hello. I manage similar need, to remember to reply later, I tag the message as soon as I read it. I defined a custom tag named "to do"  (you can say, for example, Reply Later), and assigned red color, and assigned numpad 1 key (at the top of the tag list) as shortcut.

I hit 1 on numpad to mark the message. When I am done with it later, I hit 0 on numpad to clear the mark.

Maybe this may be helpful to you.

@Grosfaaters,

The "Dark Reader" extension provides a great Dark environment. You should be satisfied with the defaults, but customization is also possible.
Extension "Dark Reader"
https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader
Get the installation file "darkreader-thunderbird.xpi,".
You can add Dark Reader from the "Add-ons Manager" menu of Thunderbird by opening the gear icon (Add-on Tools) menu and selecting "Install add-on from File".
Note: In order for the extension Dark Reader to function, Thunderbird Themes must have "Dark" set to Enabled.

@EyeCount4U,

If each message were color-coded, the message pane would be colorful with horizontal stripes, and I think it would be quite an eyesore.

I think the use of "columns" and "tags" is an easy and purposeful way to do this.
