Passwords in the Sidebar available in Release 145

You can now access your saved passwords right from the sidebar—no more need to open a new tab or window! Just open the sidebar, and your logins are right where you need them, when you need them.

Getting started:

Update to Firefox Release (v145 or later).
Open the Sidebar (via View > Sidebar or the sidebar toggle in your toolbar).
Click on the Customize Sidebar icon.
In the Firefox tools menu, click on the Passwords tool.

All I want from this "side bar" is a quick way to turn it off completely. Having a password store in there just makes Firefox more complex and risky to use.

This is a great quality-of-life update! Having passwords accessible directly from the sidebar makes things so much smoother, especially when juggling multiple logins. I agree with samyotix, it is a very good idea and looks very convenient, as long it is hidden away until it is needed. I don't think it is necessary to have a password option just sitting there unless you are logging into wherever.

It's 2025. Please tell me people aren't still storing their password in-browser? With a plethora of high quality password managers available, why is this even being discussed?

Right Click, customise toolbar and drag the sidebar off.
about:preferences - - uncheck 'Show Sidebar'.

Firefox uses AES-256 encryption via Mozilla’s NSS (Network Security Services) to protect passwords.
If you want true protection from anyone with access to your computer, enable a Primary Password. This encrypts the key itself, adding another layer of security.

I wasn't complaining about security. What if I want to use my passwords on another browser? What about other platforms? Browsers are meant for BROWSING. Password managers are meant for PASSWORD MANAGING. I can use my drill to pound a nail in, but I'd much rather use a hammer. No matter how good Fx is at securing passwords, PW managers will always be better.

Accessing saved passwords from the sidebar feels much more practical than opening a separate tab every time. I’ve tried it on v145 and it’s smooth and intuitive, especially when you’re multitasking.
