Seeking your feedback on Tab Groups

Hi all – I’m Gabriel, on the Firefox team.

We launched Tab Groups half a year ago, and since then we have introduced a number of improvements based on your feedback. You can read more in our starting guide (my personal favorite: previewing tab group contents by hovering). Now that the feature has been in your hands for a while, we would welcome your input on what comes next!

As we explore future enhancements, we are especially interested to hear your perspective on two areas:

Improving the usefulness of saved tab groups. How are you using saved tab groups? What benefits do they bring to your workflow compared to bookmarks (and bookmark folders)? How can we improve the experience? For example, we know there is a strong interest in being able to sync tab groups.

Workspaces. Some of you have requested a way to separate contexts by creating workspaces – for instance, sets of tabs and tab groups that are entirely isolated from each other, yet remain available within a single browser window. We are eager to learn more about your workspace use cases and where context separation via window management, profiles, and/or containers doesn’t meet your workflow needs. And is collaboration with others an important feature of workspaces for you?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks @DazedNConfused. Pinning tab groups makes sense. For the other behavior you mentioned ("Is it possible to automatically collapse a group after switching to another group?"), are you essentially asking for a setting that would keep only one tab group open at a time? When that setting is enabled, tab groups would collapse automatically when you open or navigate to a different tab group. Is that right?

This is a post I made on the forum about 6 months ago (https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/keyboard-shortcut-to-open-a-new-adjacent-tab-within-group/idi-p/96087), but I'd still love to see this feature added to Firefox, preferably as an additional, customizable keyboard shortcut.

In light of the recently-added tab groups feature, one feature which I think would be really welcome would be a keyboard shortcut (similar to Ctrl + T) which opens a new tab directly to the right of the current tab, in the same group as the currently-active tab.

Before I switched from Chrome to Firefox, I was an avid user of the "New Adjacent Tab" extension, which implemented this behaviour. There is a similar add-on for Firefox ("Open Adjacent New Tab") but it does not perfectly replicate the behaviour of the Chrome extension when the currently-selected tab is the rightmost tab in its group. I think this would be a helpful keyboard shortcut to have in Firefox for easier tab management, particularly for creating and managing tabs within groups.

Hi, thank you for the tab grouping feature! It's very convenient.

I'm glad you're considering workspaces as a feature for Firefox!

I want workspaces in one window.
I don't like the implementation in Edge, where they are in different windows.

I want to separate sets of tabs, for example
Workspace 1, these are YouTube tabs
Workspace 2, these are Reddit tabs

As for improvements to workspaces, I would like to have a sleep option for sets of tabs and auto add tabs to workspaces, like in Vivaldi.

And I would like to see the following improvements to tab grouping

The ability to pin tabs in groups so that they take up less space in the groups
https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/pin-tabs-inside-a-tab-group/idi-p/95228

Option to automatically group tabs by domain, link, or site name
https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/automatic-grouping-for-same-site-tabs/idi-p/54326#U54326

Subgroups so that additional groups can be created within groups
https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/sub-tab-groups/idi-p/94890

Grouping tabs and workspaces for the mobile version of Firefox as well

"

What's with this weirdly leading question? I'm sensing that collaboration features are something management wants and not something users have ever asked for. It's like you're saying, "surely you want this, right? Right? Please want this so we can work on it"

How about fixing the years old tab grouping issues on GitHub instead of pretending they don't exist. This double speak is weird and until today I had no idea Mozilla was run like such a mess.

This is how I would use workspaces.

A workspace is opened in its own window and might consist of a set of tab groups, a flat list of tabs, or both. Two different workspaces might have the same type of tab groups. I.e., two different workspaces can have tab groups with same name and purpose but those tab groups does not share tabs. I guess one could look at workspaces as tab groups with subgroups.
For example I might have:

Workspace A(Project A)

Project documentation

Bug reports

Code reviews

Document reviews

Workspace B(Project B)

Project documentation

Bug reports

Code reviews

Document reviews

Today I try to mimic this by having different set of tab groups in separate windows. This is not optimal in any way as currently it is not possible to name a window, which makes it difficult to navigate among open windows. And when a window is closed it might be tricky to find this specific window in the recently closed window list, after a week or two. I have also noticed now and then that a closed window is not in the list of recently closed windows. (Likely a bug that I should report.) I have increased the number of windows to keep in that list but sometimes a temporary window is added to that list, which I am not really interested to have in the list.

As tab groups are global I have to name the same type of tab group with the task in its name. By doing this the list of available tab groups grow large rather qickly.

Currently I have no need to collaborate with anyone else. It would be really great to be able to sync the workspaces though.

Having different profiles for different tasks would not work due to that it is only possible to login to a specific Mozilla account in one profile, as far as I remember. Syncing would not work in this case.

Tab groups with sub groups would likely work fine for me to begin with.

I am curious to know: do you always want to open new tabs adjacent to the current one, or are there times when you want the new tab to open at the end of the tab strip?
I ask because we could also explore an easily accessible setting to specify where new tabs open by default. (This can currently be changed in about:configbrowser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent and browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrentExceptPinned, but that isn't easy for people to find.) On the other hand, I see the value of having the keyboard shortcuts especially if you like to choose different new-tab behaviors at different times.

I personally would want a separate feature to open new tabs adjacent to the current one which does not require the tabs.insertAfterCurrent settings from the config.

Based on the way I like to use tab groups, I find it sometimes useful to open an additional tab within the group (particularly if I'm interested in going back to that tab later) but not 100% of the time. I currently do have the insertAfterCurrent feature enabled, but I do miss having the flexibility to open a tab at the end of the tab strip.

I was glad to see that feedback is being solicited about workspaces in particular. I used to use the Simple Tab Groups add-on before moving to a new PC around the same time that the new tab groups functionality was announced, so I wanted to have a chance to try the new system to be able to compare. But I was surprised at how different the functionality was.

Your question specifically asks, "where context separation via window management, profiles, and/or containers doesn’t meet your workflow needs". I suspect this is due to a misconception, namely that workspaces should be "entirely isolated from each other". I don't think that is what everyone wants from such a feature.

In short:

I want to be able to easily switch context between different types of tab content;

The switch should reveal one set of tabs and remove all tabs of other contexts from view;

I don't want it to log me out of sites when I switch;

I don't want it to use a completely different set of passwords/bookmarks/extensions when I switch.

Working in a workspace is modal and any new tabs I open should, by default, go into the current workspace without requiring any intervention or prior configuration

So, regarding the options you mention:

window management - I don't see how this could substitute. Imagine I have a 'music' workspace, a 'gaming' workspace, and a 'home' workspace, how can I launch a specific window with the tabs in it that I expect? I don't see any functionality for that except for History > Recently Closed Windows which seems to be placing a lot of trust in Firefox to remember the window for as long as I might need it.

profiles - two big problems here:

first, where's the UI for this? With a workspace I would expect to be able to switch from 'music' to 'gaming' in a click or two. Supposedly there was a 'new profile manager' that came earlier this year which, six months on, is still hidden by default. I don't want to trust my workflow to a feature that isn't considered ready for prime-time.

second, I can't imagine the UX is going to be smooth, if these are completely isolated profiles. If I log into Bandcamp within my 'music' workspace I'll be annoyed if I have to log in again to view a game soundtrack from within my 'gaming' workspace. I'll be furious if I can't even get access to my saved password for the site because that's in the other profile.

containers - as far as I can tell this only solves the problem of enforcing isolation "to help protect your privacy" which is a non-issue here. They're also lacking on the UI/UX front because it seems to require explicitly deciding where each link or tab needs to be opened, either as you browse or on a per-domain setting.

"is collaboration with others an important feature of workspaces for you?" - absolutely not.

The suggestions above about being able to pin tab groups and to be able to have the non-focused group auto-collapse seems to meet almost all of my needs. And, again like the comments above, without that functionality I am finding that tab groups in Firefox are worthless to me. I set them up to cover the areas I wanted, but it is impractical to use them effectively, so I do not use them at all. It is hard to see what purpose they serve, as-is.

I've lost tab groups a few times, so I don't completely trust the feature yet. Please make sure it's impossible to delete a tab group without explicitly deleting the group. Maybe you could track cases where a tab group was deleted without the UI action to figure out how this is happening?

I just lost group in Firefox 145.0, I did something like open group in new window, search via address bar, click switch tab (some other window). Then the group deleted itself and I could not get it back via groups list or history.

So, besides this bug, a feature idea here is for History to have recently deleted groups so you can recover them.

I've used "Simple Tab Groups" and "Tree Style Tab" in the past; those extensions are a bit overcomplicated, but I do miss a few things from them. I feel like native Tab Groups can almost replace them with a bit more UI work.

I think the "Open Tabs" view should be a bit more capable and also let you organize tab groups. This should be the place to organize all your windows and tab groups.

* convert window to tab group

* drag tab to/from groups and windows

* delete windows/groups

* save & close tab group

* quick filters for Everything | Windows | Tab Groups

 * distinguish opened groups from closed groups, maybe useful to have filters for open vs closed tab groups as well. idk if you should be able to organize closed tab groups, it could be useful, but not the most important thing if there are technical issues with manipulating closed tab groups.

I'm a big fan of Simple Tab Groups and agree with all of your points, I feel like a lot of these features should be built into both "Firefox View" window. More robust tab group management is a must! Currently you can do _some_ things via the "List all tabs" dropdown, and other things you need to do by right clicking on the tab group in the tab bar.

One other feature from Simple Tab Groups that really makes sense is assigning a default container for new tabs within a group (ex: a "Shopping" group will open Shopping container tabs). I know the Simple Tab Groups extension has a different workflow, but it would be cool to see some form of synergy between these two great Firefox features. For example, creating a new shortcut for "New tab in group" can add a new tab in the group I'm currently working in, and also use the assigned container for that group.

Saved tab groups are huge for me because I use my personal laptop for my work, side hustle, and personal life.

I would love to see a combination with the official Mozilla Addon Firefox Multi-Account-Containers.

You should be able to assign a tabgroup to a container optionally and all tabs within that group should open in the mapped container.

I would also like to have a `new tab in this group` or `open new tab in group x` functionality when I'm not navigating from an already grouped tab.

Pinning a tab group would fix its position in the tab strip (similar to pinned tabs), whereas "save and close group" closes the group (and the tabs in it), but lets you open the group later from the "list all tabs menu".

I love the new tab groups and prefer firefox tab groups to addons like Simple Tab Groups or Sideberry for tab management. My only gripe is they don't sync. Previously, If I needed to reinstall firefox or move to a new computer I used the backup created by Simple Tab Groups to restore my groups. Is similar backup and restore functionality in the works for firefox tab groups by adding them to mozilla account sync? The workspaces are a good idea and I'd probably use them too but my most pressing concern is being able to restore my firefox tab groups. I have two or three hundred tabs in a dozen tab groups. In the meantime, if I've backed up my firefox profile is there a file I can copy over to restore the firefox tab groups on a fresh installation of firefox?

Is it possible for the groups to be synced as a group? That is my top request is the ability to open a group on another computer without the need to open the tabs one at a time and then combine them back into a group on a different computer.

Workspaces are essential to a modern browser, IMHO (moved to Linux after Windows 10 died, and with that, I switched from Opera GX to Firefox, so I have actually used workspaces).

They're best used to compliment tab groups and containers, not instead of them. Having separated contexts in general is great, but tab groups by themselves don't really serve that purpose. I guess if I really want to stretch metaphors: tab groups are like folders that hold multiple pages, while workspaces are like binders that hold multiple folders. Containers are their own thing, and I love them, but they're far more useful for privacy than organization, and they should stay that way.

A lot of people have mentioned the Simple Tab Groups extension, and its ok. Its functionally much closer to workspaces than tab groups, but it doesn't seem to handle native tab groups very well (I once lost all the tabs in the native groups I had created, but thankfully it wasn't a critical loss), and it seems to get confused when more than one window is involved (tried that after the native tab group debacle).

They all really differ from bookmarks in the sense that they're 'living', while bookmarks are 'dead', if that makes sense.

Ideally, the way they'd play together would go something like this. I set up a workspace for things like emails and social media (i.e., things I'm logged into that I check less frequently and don't want to totally clog my tab view with). I separate them into a group of email tabs, and a group of social media tabs. I pin the email tabs, and the social media home pages. Each service gets its own container. I switch to a different workspace altogether for things like watching videos or game guides, etc., and the pinned email and social media tabs are hidden outside of their designated workspace, while any tabs I have pinned in the workspace I'm currently in are visible (this is a feature missing from Simple Tab Groups).

EDIT: oh, yeah, and I don't really do collaboration, so that's a nonissue for me.

Thanks, all, for the helpful suggestions so far! For those of you interested in pinning tab groups -- @DazedNConfused, @yermulnik, @JTelcontar, @Kylotan, and others -- can you describe in more detail the behavior you would want from these pinned groups? For instance, would they always appear at the left/top of your tab strip (similar to pinned tabs)? Would these pinned groups be accessible elsewhere? We would appreciate hearing these specifics, because they will help shape the potential implementation.

For me it's these basic specs:

Have them pinned at left side of the tab strip similar to pinned tabs (don't care of accessing them from elsewhere, I'm good with tab strip only)

Have pinned tab groups distinguished from pinned tabs in some way (maybe a small label over the tab icon 🤔)

Allow arbitrary order of pinned groups and tabs (rather then fixed order of e.g. pinned tabs first + pinned groups on right side of pinned tabs)

Keep tab group colour when group is pinned (and keep the rest of features like previewing the list of tab titles inside group on hovering)

Allow expanding pinned group without unpinning it (probably tabs inside pinned group should be similarly "pinned" as in have tab title shorten to icon only as pinned tabs do)

Thank you!

To be clear, pinning the tab groups doesn't really solve my problem on its own and I don't have a strong opinion about it in the absence of the other functionality that would solve my problem.

I currently use the vertical tabs sidebar, and if the groups were pinned at the top and nothing else changed, it's hard to see how that would be usable since the tabs associated with the group would be nowhere near.

I already have access to all the tab groups via the List All Tabs button at the top right (which I didn't discover until recently - someone tell the UX team that these minimalist monochrome icons are a usability failure, please) but without the choosing of a group also hiding all irrelevant tabs and automatically opening subsequent links within the same group, it's completely worthless to me. I honestly don't see what benefit people get from tab groups as they currently stand (though I appreciate I am not in the majority).

Workspaces would be a nice addition to organize tabs into different "themes", for example one for work, one for shopping, one for financial etc. Actually that's the reason I am currently using the Sidebery extension and not the tab groups feature which I find very limited since I have hundreds of tabs open at any time.

I’ve been using tab groups regularly, and they’ve really helped keep things organized. Saved groups are useful, but syncing them across devices would make them even better. Workspaces also sound like a great idea for keeping different projects separate without needing extra windows.

This is a great initiative! Personally, I’ve found saved tab groups extremely useful for organizing projects or research topics—much faster than using bookmarks because I can reopen an entire context at once. Syncing tab groups across devices would be a game-changer for me, especially when switching between work and personal machines.

Regarding workspaces, I often juggle multiple projects simultaneously, and isolating sets of tabs for each project would help me avoid distractions and keep everything neatly organized. Collaboration would be a nice bonus, but my main need is smooth context switching within a single browser window.

Looking forward to seeing how these features evolve!

I'm happy to see that use cases and feedback is being asked on the use of tabs, workspaces, window management, _and containers_. Reading through the feedback, I'll echo some of the points I've seen brought up.

You mention _for instance, sets of tabs and tab groups that are entirely isolated from each other, yet remain available within a single browser window. We are eager to learn more about your workspace use cases and where context separation via window management, profiles, and/or containers doesn’t meet your workflow needs._

In my use case, my workspaces, that can be several windows, use containers to isolate projects and personal tabs. Similar to falolaf I have workspaces set up as:

Workspace A (Personal)

Window A

Tab A

Tab B

Tab C

Window B

Tab D

Tab E

Tab F

Window C

Tab G

Tab H

Workspace B (Project A)

Window A

Tab A

Tab B

Tab ...

Workspace C (Project B)

Window A

Tab ...

And so forth.

This allows me to open / close workspaces with the appropriate accounts logged in, as needed. I can pull out a temporary "working tab" of that specific container that's focused on a single task, if required, without interrupting the order and layout of the primary tabs I would use in that context.

Today, I use a mix of Firefox's Multi-Account Containers, Simple Tab Groups, and Sticky Window Containers to mimic the use case I had in other browsers.

This mix allows me to have windows associated to a container (forming my "workspace" concept) to be able to focus on a specific area / topic and not have logins leak across workspaces (i.e., multiple logins for the same site).

If I close a window, I can recover the state of that window and open all the tabs from that state to pick up where I left off (part of the functionality of Simple Tab Groups) and ensure that all subsequent tabs in that "workspace" use the same container (the functionality of Sticky Window Containers and Firefox Multi-Account Containers).

To add an additional layer, I may also have a Simple Tab Group + Multi-Account Container + Windows combination from another device. I don't use Tab Groups because they currently aren't supported by Firefox Sync, which is part of the puzzle. While Simple Tab Groups doesn't directly support Firefox Sync, there is a workaround that is acceptable for now. Accessing a "workspace" from another device (or the "workspaces" from my main device on another) is part of my workflow.

Hope this helps gain insight and happy to answer any questions!

I have many tab groups and I would really need alphabetical group sorting in the right-click > Add Tab to Group sub-menu. Or alternatively a small search by name box. Ideally both. Having to search manually through all the tab groups takes a lot of time. It's like YouTube when it makes you dive through your video collections, but you cannot enough Ctrl+F it since it's not part of a website.

I'm a long-time user of vertical tabs (mainly via TreeStyleTabs, later Vertical Tree‌ Tabs) and now I switched to the native Firefox vertical tabs - but without the tree feature.

I'd love to see automatically start a group when a URL is opened in a new tab, and to create such groups in unlimited hierarchies - a tab tree. This would allow me to create and group tabs in topics.

Hi Gabriel, good to know someone is working on this, thanks for asking. Tab groups, pinned pages, and containers have a lot in common, seems like an integration of these very helpful functions could be rolled into a single solution with multiple options, that way Moz ends up supporting fewer overlapping functions, and users could find in one place all the ways they can fix their working categories to a persistent instance.

For tab groups, the ephemeral nature of that functionality, being tied to browsing history, is vexing to many people who prefer to not keep a browsing history, but still want the ready functionality of such groups. Tab groups may be more useful to people if they were saveable across browsing sessions, like bookmarks, maybe accessible from a section of the bookmarks sidebar, and accessible in private browsing windows upon browser startup, as well.

Talking about workspaces, that's a feature I have found useful in Arc and Zen, but it's not more important for me to have it all in one window as much as it is to have profile separation in the first place. It's a convenience I'd prefer, but not a deal-breaker.

What's essential to my workflow is to be able to choose which profile opens a link from another app, say, Thunderbird. For example, when you combine your personal and work emails with unified folders in Thunderbird, you might receive all sorts of links, and it would be useful to be able to choose where they open in Firefox.

Often, I navigate to a tab from the 'show all tab titles' button on the top right.

I would appreciate it when this overview allows for collapsing and expanding tab groups. This would allow me to immediately go to the right tab. Now, I first have to click the tab group, and then either scroll the tab bar to the right tab, or open the 'show all tab titles' menu again.

I can see how the extra steps can be frustrating. In the "List all tabs" menu, do you most often use the "Recent tab groups" section of the menu for this purpose, the "Current window" section, or both? At the moment, the "Current window" section will show the titles of tabs within groups if those groups are expanded (but not if they are collapsed).

I would like to see the WORKSPACE feature become a native function in Firefox.

I have two main points of concern/preference regarding its implementation:

Window Handling (Integration vs. Separation): I strongly prefer an integrated window approach because I want to avoid having too many separate windows open on my desktop.

Session Management (Integration vs. Separation): Both options are acceptable to me. However, it would be ideal to have an option that allows users to decide whether different workspaces share the same session (e.g., cookies, login status) or run in isolation.

Hello, I systematically read articles and textbooks using firefox, so I organize them across different windows for different topics and within the windows I organize topics as important, miscellaneous, a number of subtopics, tangents, etc. I have to name groups "topic 1 important" "topic 1 misc" instead of naming the whole window "topic 1". Naming windows and displaying this in send tab to group context menu would help out a lot, we can even have a move tab to window context option. I hope we can also (multi)select tab groups and drag and drop/bookmark these. Save group and close is very unintuitive, I bet most people were confused where their tabs went.

Its so sad that you act like you care about feedbacks. But the reality is that you dont. You moderade people who dont like new features, but the net is full of complaining, a lot of people dislike this tab groups.

Its nice a lot love them, do upgrades they like, just leave the option to turn the whole thing off.

And do something with the streams, because since a month i they dont work on firefox. 1 page works for 15-20 minutes. The more tab is open, streams go laggy earlier, around 10 tabs all streams are laggy (one picture in 10 secs), speedtest says everything is ok, but firefox gpu usage is 100% on shift+esc page, while everything else runs perfectly on the pc, its able to run games while you say the gpu is at limit...

Thanks for answering. No, disabled, also increased the grouping time, so I managed to turn it off now.

I just hope this turn off option remains available.

chrome also started like this with their visual changes, we was able to turn everything off, but after a whlie they took all the turn off options out of :flags, or what was the settings page there. It just happened once, bad experiences.

I really can't get the hang of using tab groups. They don't work as expected, and not anywhere near as well as they do in Chrome.
I created a tab group a while back. Saved it and closed it. Didn't like how one tab remained open after you closed it, would expect them all to disappear to a button or something. Then had to do a google search to find out how to reopen the tab group 🙄. Now I come back several weeks later and that tab group has completely disappeared, no sign of it anywhere. I thought it was saved? Not under the strange arrow tab button in the far corner, not under any new thing I've missed somewhere. I'm really confused. I'd love it if it just worked so that you can put tabs in a group, and access them easily at any time in the future. Simple, but perfect.

Yes, as a bookmark folder which is also intuitive.
I think after saving group, everyone checks their bookmarks manager, so it's reasonable to have a separate section in bookmarks 'saved tabs' to store saved tabs. Also makes exporting tabs easy.
Secondly, in vertical tabs it makes sense to have option to view saved tabs similar to existing 'tabs from other devices' ie. sidebar.
Finally, being able to set the 'saved tabs' bookmark location on the bookmark toolbar similar to bookmark toolbar items would be convenient to drag and drop tab groups as well.

This would be amazing, I could save tab groups without closing them like a bookmark but when I feel like I won't be changing the tabs in saved tab groups, I can just drag them into bookmarks! When I want to make changes, I can drag bookmarked folder back onto 'saved tabs' and open it as a tab group. I won't have to 'sync' tabs in bookmarks and de-duplicate links and so on.

Tab groups are great, thanks !!

As I have the "browser.tabs.insertAfterCurrent" set to true, I would like to have a + button at the end of each tab group (or at least the current one). It makes my brain confused to have the + at the end of the row, knowing I want a new tab in my current group (which may not be the last one). Current design makes me feel like the + button belongs to the last collapsed tab group, and thus I am missing + buttons on other tab groups.

Also I would rather have tabs open at the end of the current tab group, rather than after the current tab.

A magic feature would be that commonly used URLs open in their usual tab group. Would be useful either for bookmarks (bookmark bar) or entering an URL in the URL bar -> as soon as you hit enter, the tab is placed in its rightful tab group!

My first encounter with tab groups was when Panorama released in Firefox back in the day. I didn't particularly care for the graphical overview screen, just the grouping functionality and how it was implemented – it simply shows tabs from the selected group and hides all others. This is great if you're researching/working on multiple topics simultaneously, because you can focus on one at time and remove distractions.

I'm currently using Simple Tab Groups to get this functionality back, and don't use the built-in groups at all. I just can't get used to to the Chrome-inspired tab groups.

Before saving tab groups implemented they were complete no-go for me, because of the clutter in the tab bar. Save and close solves this problem, but then tab groups essentially become bookmark folders (just slightly more convenient to use) which is too much clicking for my workflow of ever wanting one group opened at a time.

To answer your questions on workspaces:

Yeah, I guess multiple windows would achieve a similar effect, but it would be clunky to use. You have to manually minimize ones you don't want to see, multiple windows clutter the OS taskbar/alt+tab view, you have to remember to close the browser using ctrl+Q instead of clicking X because then you're closing only one of the windows.

Profiles and containers don't solve this problem. For me workspaces only need to separate things visually, I don't need data separation (history, cookies, etc).

I love the Edge implementation of Workspaces, it's better to have it in separate windows because I can macro Alt + Tab and I barely have to think about changing workspace windows, it's so simple, and I don't have to have a million tabs open constantly.

Yeah I am baffled as to why there is no one-click way to open a new tab in a tab group. It seems like a glaring omission. That is the single biggest thing preventing me from switching over to Firefox at this point, now that there is vertical tabs with tab groups.

Shortkeys is an extension that lets you set custom keyboard shortcuts, and it supports moving the current tab to the last position. I don't believe there's an action for opening a tab in the last position, but Ctrl + T to open a tab to the right and then Ctrl + Shift + End (or whatever you prefer) to move to the end achieves the same result.

Workspaces

For isolated workspaces in one browser window, this is more or less covered right now by container tabs. It would be nice if using Ctrl + T while a container tab is active opened the new tab in the same container. Profiles are also a nice feature that isolate tabs in separate windows.

Maybe integrating container tabs more seamlessly with tab groups would be valuable for some people? Like a per-group option that requires tabs in the group to use a specific container. That seems like it would hamstring the flexibility of both groups and containers though.

Saved tab groups

I find that it's a lot easier to manage and prune tabs than bookmarks. The difference mostly comes down to support for keyboard shortcuts. In the bookmark interfaces, navigating between elements with tab or arrow keys is basically all that's provided. Searching for bookmarks on labels and tags is nice, but the clunkiness of getting to the search bar and then navigating to the right search result with the keyboard outweighs the usefulness.

When I close a saved tab group, I know that the current tab order will be restored when I open it. Achieving the same thing with bookmarks would be clunky, and I would constantly be deleting and recreating bookmark folders to preserve my tab order.

Useful features for tab groups that other replies have mentioned:

Pinning tabs within groups

Keyboard shortcuts to expand/collapse the focused tab's group

Keyboard shortcuts to move tabs to the first or last position within a group

I would like that when you rotate between tabs that are within a group you don't go out to the rest of the tabs, or at least that there is a keyboard shortcut to navigate between tabs within the same group.

I find it very confusing that tab groups seem to be distinct from bookmarks. Please consider U.X. where the application's database for tab groups is (and only is) the user's bookmark folder structure.

The U.X. for operating on multiple selected tabs could also use some work. For example:
- Making the keyboard shortcut to close tab also close all selected tabs, or perhaps mapping that to the same key with a modifier like Shift.
- Changing the "copy link" option in the context menu to "copy (all) links" when multiple tabs are selected. Personally, I would prefer them formatted as a newline delimited list.
