Thunderbird latest version NOT Marking messages when Read

The latest version of Thunderbird is driving me mad it will NOT mark messages as READ unless the Automatic checkbox is engaged!

Please revert to the old version where clicking on an INDIVIDUAL message marks it as opened, currently it does not!

I do not want to automatically mark messages as opened fter say 5 seconds - I am a human being and NOT a computer

Hi @Geoff-Hill. I'm not aware of any bugs in this area.

If you are still having trouble, please make sure you are on the newest version and that it doesn't happen in Help > Troubleshooting Mode.

If it still happens, please post at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/thunderbird and include your version number and identify your mail providers. Thanks.
