What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to ask the Firefox team?

Performance took me from Firefox to Chrome (frequent, random freezing; I think my profile was borked)

Performance took me back to Firefox (lazyloading of tabs on re-launch.)

Performance now has me using a mix of Chrome, Firefox, and Brave (Youtube is basically broken on Firefox)

How tractable is it to make Firefox significantly faster than Chrome (or Blink-based browsers in general)? Chrome is obviously putting a lot of effort into optimizations, and when they have the marketshare, developers will benchmark against Chrome and end up writing code optimized for Chrome. Is Firefox a lost cause at this point, or can a concerted effort allow it to be noticeably more performant?

Which topics should we cover during the AMA?

Are there non-incremental performance improvement projects underway? Servo, Stylo, and Qauntum were all very exciting. Do we have anything like that right now? How do you prioritize performance, and incrementalism vs. major, long-haul projects?

Which animal best represents your Firefox browsing style?

🐆🐿️

Attached: Me and my brother at a Mozilla 1.0 release party.

UPDATE: the AMA with Firefox Leadership <STRIKE>is scheduled for</STRIKE> happened Oct. 6th, 2025 over on Reddit at r/firefox — check out the full session here. Thanks all for participating (here in this thread and over on Reddit), we look forward to the next one!

-----

Hey Firefox friends! 👋

We’re trying something new and would love your help.

Features like tab groups, vertical tabs, profiles, new tab wallpapers, PWAs, and taskbar pinning weren’t just ideas – they were direct responses to what you told us you wanted. Your input has helped shape where Firefox is today, and we’re proud of what we’ve built together. We’re listening, we’ve been listening, and we’re excited to keep building a better browser together.

Starting now, we’re trying something new.

A series of quick check-ins to hear where you’re at, what’s on your mind, and what you really want from Firefox. These surveys will help shape Firefox features and give you more direct ways to connect with the people building your favorite browser.

Just honest questions, and space for honest answers.

Help guide our next AMA with the Firefox team

We're thinking about how we engage with this community, and we’re planning a community AMA (Ask Me Anything) with Firefox product managers.

Let’s start with questions to help us plan the AMA, and a fun one at the end.

What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to ask the Firefox team?

Drop it in the comments! It might get answered during our upcoming AMA.

Which topics should we cover during the AMA?

(Some suggestions, or you can add your own below)

New features (and why we pick them)

Other: [tell us]

Which animal best represents your Firefox browsing style?

🐆 Cheetah – lightning fast

🦉 Owl – wise and methodical

🐿️ Squirrel – a total tab-hoarder

🐬 Dolphin – curious and always exploring

🧠 Other (tell us below!)

Thanks for being part of the Firefox journey 💜

Hello, I'm a Dolphin and an Anti-Squirrel. I regularly destroy hundreds of tabs and like exploring.

Split View is lacking. I'm constantly multitasking and working with different documents at the same time, such as Canva, Google Docs, and Excel.

Make the Android interface and themes more flexible. Since quarantine began, the browser has become more than just a tool. There used to be themes, by the way. I think... It was a long time ago.

I would like more flexibility in the interface, which Vivaldi offers. However, it's clear that Firefox is more focused on browser development itself.

That's what interests me about the browser.

I've been with you for over a year, although I was here before 2017 until Chrome came between us.

I have a few questions, one of which is what a typical workday looks like for you. How do you feel about feedback from Reddit? There's often a lot of negativity there, and people feel disconnected on Mozilla Connect. One frustrated user claimed that posts here don't make any noise.

I remember trying to sign up for a user study, but I think they skipped me. It would be fun to see some crazy ideas.

I'm concerned about the lack of Cyrillic languages in AI features, as well as the fact that many of your good ideas go unnoticed. Orbit could clearly be improved, although the sidebar developed under Ania's leadership has surpassed its functionality.

That's a lot of questions, but it's nice to meet you!

I'm also interested in your expectations regarding the user base and the mysterious YouTube freezes.

Fewer users means fewer sites pay attention to performance on Firefox. This is somewhat disappointing, though little has changed for me as a user. It mainly breaks on some particularly clunky sites. Thankfully, most sites appear normal or, with the help of Firefox, don't reveal their true nature.

However, the graph is falling inexorably, and it's unclear how many users blocking ad blockers will bring. It's amusing to realize that using an ad blocker isn't an obvious skill.

Without it, though, it's like not wearing a gas mask.

On Reddit, people constantly complain about YouTube freezing. It seems like magic to me because it's never happened to me.

Maybe I'm tolerant of delays, or maybe it's because I pay for it. Or maybe I'm not included in their A/B testing. Some people theorize that it's monopolistic machinations. I don't like conspiracy theories; I prefer real data. Maybe there's an extension that could log what's happening inside the YouTube page and reveal this mystery.

Many people are mourning the loss of Pocket, especially Fakespot. Are they gone for good, or will they resurface in a new incarnation? It seems like a lot of people used these two acquired companies' services.

Oof.

Anyway, how's your summer going? It's been nothing but heat here.

Okay, and my little headache. Try right-clicking in Google Docs and selecting Paste.

All right, I'll use Ctrl+V, my dear dialog box. Yes, don't ruin my mood.

I'm already inclined to conspiracy theories. Clearly, they have implemented paste in a complicated way.

Hello, thank you for Firefox, for developing it.
The most requested features like tabs grouping, vertical tabs, pwa, profiles have made our lives better) we are very grateful for it, we are happy together.

I think you need to focus on 3 things, optimization, features and design

Of course, we need periodic comprehensive improvements to the browser, not forgetting about small ideas that may be noticed, but the main thing we need is

For the PC version

Optimization:
(Faster page loading), this is probably the most important thing we want, Firefox really lags behind in terms of page loading speed compared to other browsers, do you have any plans to improve the speed or does it require some seriously complex engine changes?
We also need to reduce resource consumption, at least an improved sleep function for tabs to reduce the consumption of RAM.
Features:
Workspaces, this is a very convenient modern feature that in 1-2 clicks changes our browser, dividing the view into categories...
Split Site Screen is also an important feature that is already available in all browsers, it will also allow us to compare different products, texts...
Portable version for Windows, it will also be + 1 feature for security, it is similar to container programs in Linux.

Design:
Icons in the menu and in the context menus, let's bring back, we are more likely to navigate by icons.
More rounded horizontal tabs should match the rounded vertical tabs.
A new browser icon, it's been a long time since the icon was changed, let's change it.
New color instead of the perennial purple.
New animation of a circle or a loading line on the tabs, it will be more informative than the 3 dots animation.

Mobile version.

Optimization:
(Fixing the problem of unloading reloading tabs), this is the most frustrating thing for us, that we don't want to launch the browser(
Faster page loading, the mobile version also needs faster page loading.

Features:
Ability to choose your own wallpaper for a new tab, this will give us the ability to customize the browser for ourselves, we don't have enough standard wallpapers, give us freedom🙏
Grouping of tabs, thanks for grouping tabs on PC, but we also need it on phones, because it is difficult to navigate among many tabs(
Workspaces, it would be nice to have also in the mobile version to divide by categories.

And please let us know in advance what stages of development this or that feature is in. Thank you!

I 🐬 Dolphin

heya, i was wondering if there was a way to revert back to older ui designs on ios? the ui change is unpleasant to put it lightly. cluttered thanks to the lack of inactive tabs for some reason and everything is not in it’s right place no more.

hope that you have a good week

I use Mullvad, which blocks trackers. I really like it, but it also disables Mozilla telemetry.

What percentage of your users do you estimate have telemetry disabled, and how much does this affect your decisions?

Perhaps you can see this through Firefox Sync, although I won't speculate on that.

Any news item that mentions telemetry or terms of service causes slight panic because the active part of the community reacts strongly to what they perceive as a reduction in freedom.

I remember when people thought Firefox was selling their data wholesale because of the wording of your terms of service. That caused quite a stir.

You eventually published a blog post explaining the situation, and the panic subsided.

Also there was that incident with PPA.

I sincerely believe releasing a comic strip a few weeks in advance, featuring the fox from the error messages, about some planned changes that could be interpreted differently, might have helped. But that's just fantasy. Or maybe not.

I do like that character, though.

Hello I'm an Owl. I'm a Firefox Android user and i use All three version of firefox and Firefox focus (beta).

Recently i have seen that Firefox Nightly had an option to use Tab bars but the problem is it is doesn't support Bottom option. I hope you have more exciting ideas so i'm waiting for it and i also want Perplexity AI in Firefox Android like Firefox desktop.

I'm also an user of Firefox Focus and i think it need some features like Bottom address bar and multiple tabs like Firefox. Also it has option to only have 4 Shortcuts at a time, would be happy to have more.

Thank you Firefox.....

One thing I’ve always wanted to ask the Firefox team is: How do you prioritize performance for resource-heavy web apps or games? Especially for people using browser-based or cloud gaming services — it would be amazing to know if there are upcoming features focused on stability and speed.

Also, I’d love to see more integration or tips on optimizing Firefox for gaming. For example, I recently came across this guide on optimizing browsers for games like CarX Street, and it made me realize how much impact browser settings can have on gaming performance.

As for the animal, I’d say I’m definitely a Owl — I like to plan, use profiles, and keep everything super organized (most of the time!).

Looking forward to the AMA and all the new features coming up. Thanks for making Firefox better every day!

Firefox still needs quiet a lot of improvements

1) Split view feature is becoming default in all the browsers

2) Firefox android needs performance improvements

3) The tab bar in the nightly android is actually very nice. Just let us use it on the bottom of the phone screen.

Hello! I think that Firefox is the most beautiful and customizable browser. There are not so many that I want to be implemented:

Workspaces

Tab groups and workspaces for mobile

Second sidebar with web panels

What a great post - thank you!!

I'll try to keep it simple.

I'm defenetly an Owl and a Dophin (I switch browsers quite often to test new features for example).

I use a Browser primarly for work purposes (it covers more than 80% of my time online). Since I'm using a browser primary for work I need some productivity tools out of the box.

Firefox implemented very well the vertical tabs, tab groups and PnP (it is one of the best implementations out there) however there are some things missing that will defenetly make me switch to Firefox as the ONLY browsing app. Currently I use Firefox as my secondary browser for my personal browsing and what is missing (for me at least) are these features:

Workspaces (as Vivaldi and Opera have implemented)

PnP for meetings (it is a Chromium feature for Google Meet however Opera devs implemented this feature 5 years ago and for me over the pandemic it was a life saver)

Sidebar (as in Vivaldi, Opera and Edge) with the possibility to add web pannels. This helps A LOT my productivity

Show occupied RAM for every tab

The ability to sync tab groups on every platform (Desktop, Android, iOS)

Addons on iOS (I know....I understand the difficulty but it is on my whishlist)

Let's say that the first 3 are mandatory for my workflow.

And now for the good part: Firefox is the ONLY browser company that has people like you, that ask its user base for feedback and as far as I'm cencerned this also is what makes browsing with Firefox the right thing to do.

Thank you and keep up the great work you're doing.

Workspaces! Recently, I tried Vivaldi and it looks great, the UI is very smooth and polished. It’s a pleasure to work in Vivaldi. The tabs look good (not like buttons), the workspaces are fantastic, and the sidebar is just a bonus. Customization options are also very good in Vivaldi. And of course workspaces in the Android version. And of course I’d love to see workspaces implemented in the Android version as well.

I would extend tab groups to tab folders, and integrate them with bookmark folders, as special dynamic bookmark folders (a checkbox per folder would mark bookmark folders that can be opened as tab folders). This way, you add tab group/folder sync with zero effort as well, via the already existing bookmarks sync.

In my opinion, this solution is better than any other that exists currently, because it lets you integrate tab groups and bookmarks, without having to turn all bookmark folders into a tab group—like Arc does for example, which I thought I liked but it really just breaks organization. Having only a select few bookmark folders be openable as tab folders would be perfect. We might even be able to open any subfolder of a dynamic folder as a tab folder.

The main challenge with this, besides the obvious effort required to implement it, is handling horizontal tabs. This works fine for vertical tabs, but maybe it's a challenge for the classical horizontal setup.

Workspaces is definitely one of the features that I feel like I'm missing, as others have said, but I also think that FireFox needs better screen sharing options. While we have the ability to share windows or the full screen, Chrome and it's various forks all have the ability to share a specific tab. In fact, I much prefer the window for picking what's shared in Chrome et al, because it allows me to directly choose in the UI, rather than having to mouse over what I want to share.

These are some business forward features that I think Firefox needs to start focusing on, and I think Enterprise is what Firefox needs to be thinking about more than anything.

Hello Firefox team, An owl! I will like to see better optimization! i mean less resource usage in part of the browser, i have a mid range desktop PC which there works pretty well and i don't have many problems but i tested out Firefox in low-mid low end computers, laptops, Android mobile devices and is almost unusable, i would like to see a performance, stability, optimization pass in all platforms, also more focus in the mobile apps (Android, iOS) which they still are missing features like, extension support, ad block in iOS and site Isolation,Tab groups, better UI design in the android version.

I think that for now the browser have all the standard features that a modern browser should have, at least in desktop, the only thing that is missing is Split View, but for the rest is pretty solid and enough, you should now focus in the Gecko engine, web page performance and less resource usage, Thanks for this amazing browser!.

1. Please, Tab grouping on Android. And Tab grouping by default. And by that, I mean, when I click an hyperlink in Wikipedia (for example), it opens it in, or automatically creates, a tab group. I don't like having to create them manually, like with the current collections.

2. You need to start adding or enabling more extensions in Android (basics, like print friendly and video downloaders). That was what made Firefox stand out from the rest. Now Edge and others (Quetta) are starting to step on your heels.

3. Also, split screen on desktop (and Android).

I want a built-in Adguard ad filter. Adguard is open source, and you can try to build Adguard into Firefox to protect your privacy. You've always been negative about ad blocking, but Brave and Librewolf have built-in ad filtering plugins. It's also important to say that it must be Adguard, don't use ublock. Because Adguard has more languages, includes a lot of ad filtering rules, and has a detailed introduction, the user experience is higher than that of ublock. ublock contains fewer ad filtering rules, and I don't know the usefulness of ad filtering rules, so there is no corresponding introduction.

All due respect, Adguard has an extension that is quite functional. The better focus is on extension performance and privacy at the forefront. Should I need Adguard or UOrigin? Don't build in things if you can make the need for them obsolete.

I'm talking about the AdGuard browser extension. Firefox should have a built-in ad filter like brave and librewolf. Ad filters are effective in protecting privacy by filtering not only ads, but also tracking scripts. If it weren't built-in, no one would know that there was a thing in the world called an ad filter. I recommend using Adguard because it's easier to report back to the Adguard team when you encounter ads that aren't filtered

I want to improve the ability to import bookmarks from other browsers. I have a lot of bookmarks in edge and chrome, each in a different folder, but when I import the bookmarks, it all imports them to Firefox at once, and then it causes my Firefox bookmarks to be messy. The feature I need is that I can choose one of the bookmark folders to import, and only import the bookmarks inside one folder, which will be more tidy. I can import them one by one.

I don't think you understand, it doesn't need to be built in to the browser. I want to decide what is installed and is not installed, not have to use AdGuard. That's FOSS. Plus the money to license AdGuard to connect it to Firefox like that is likely not realistic when they are possibly going to loose all the Google money. My two cents.

Firefox for Android needs a complete overhaul. That's really the only problem I have with FF. Especially now that I use a foldable, it is completely unusable. UI is outdated, confusing and doesn't adapt to my phone's two display sizes. (Just copy what Chrome does for this...). Make it faster! FF for Android is quite sluggish. Years ago, it seems quite quick, but unfortunately not any more.

Hi, I switched to firefox about a week ago from Chrome, and a few things have stood out to me as missing.

1) Customizable keyboard shortcuts. Some of the shortcuts on firefox are ridiculous and seriously slows me down. Also, having keyboard shortcuts to activate extensions like chrome does would be nice. Right now, I literally have an autohotkey script running to remap keyboard shortcuts.

2) I didn't think I'd miss it, but Google lens. I'd love to see some kind of built in OCR and image search function. There's probably an extension that does this, but none as smooth as on Chrome.

3) I honestly don't like the 'library' panel. I'd much prefer if it was just a tab like in chrome.

4) Some way to make the size of the UI larger. I feel like the bookmarks are harder to read on firefox.

5) For some reason, video call quality is far worse on firefox than chrome. When I have a meeting on google meet, the audio from my mic on firefox is much more garbled.

6) (this is kind of a pet peeve) activating picture-in-picture focuses on the popout window, so I can't combo keyboard shortcuts (e.g. put this video in picture-in-picture and go to another tab)

What you all really need to work on is messaging. How many times have you made an announcement, like the changes to the user agreement, and botched the rollout because it was poorly written and communicated? I'm still not sure I understand why you're getting into AI other than the fact that other companies are working on it and I'm really not sure if you're implementing a more privacy-friendly and open sourced AI that doesn't gobble energy and data or if I should find another alternative browser that's not using AI. Communicate better and help me to understand. And don't just drop it on a blog, there should be videos, messaging, something to let people know that the info is out there and where it is.

I'd like to see some security improvements with sandboxing, especially in Android. I prefer Firefox as my browser, but I've been reading up on security in Gecko and it seems that it's weaker than Chromium/Blink. If this isn't true, I'd love to find out.

I think you also dropped the ball on Mastodon. You went in to give users a shot at an open source social media experience and it feels like you just shut it down before giving it a fair shake. How is it that Vivaldi can run their own server and do well but you crashed out, depriving users a fair go and removing an avenue to communicate directly with your users?

I'll add the split screen idea is a good one and one I've used quite a bit in Vivaldi and Zen Browser. I've been surprised how useful it can be.

I’m a squirrel and until 2 weeks ago had been using Firefox for close to 2 decades. But I had to change browser because I’ve been raising progressively more memory and performance issues for 2 years now, and they’re now sufficiently severe that the browser crashes multiple times a day. Stability just seems to be a lower priority. Plus, Firefox has fallen behind on Dev tools, and Chrome based browsers turn out to have much better memory and cpu profiling tools. I’m very sad about this, and dragged my feet on the switch for 2 years. But it just feels like to fix the decline, Firefox needs to really fix the performance and dev tools problems.

Thanks for doing this! I truly believe that your project is truly one of the most important internet projects there is (alongside Archive, Wikipedia etc.), and I desperately want this project to succeed. I'm probably a
Dolphin.

Are our UI customizations ever going to get synced?

What we've added and removed from the toolbar, and so forth.

What do you think about Arc, Zen, and their kin?

I've been using and loving Zen (a Firefox fork with heavy customization that's reminiscent of Arc). These rethinks of the browser experience are gathering steam, and you could be ahead of the curve here. I truly believe that you'd create a huge amount of FOMO (and user share) if you provided a first-party means to turning Firefox into it:

You're already doing vertical tabs! That's probably the lion's share of the work.

You don't like extensions radically modifying the UI, so have an option to allow the user to move the address bar and toolbar into the vertical tabs.

Allow extensions to introduce themselves above and below tabs in the vertical tab bar. That means your community can take over implementing things like "Essentials" (and who knows what else) unless you feel like doing it.

I'm an Owl and a Dolphin. Granted, I know what I want, but I'm almost 100% sure I won't see it again in my lifetime. Namely, I miss Personas, of the kind that Firefox had in its early versions and Vivaldi has now. I'd love to know that I like, I could make Firefox look like it was Firefox 57, or 3, or an old Netscape version, or Google Chrome, while still being Firefox under the hood, without having to mess with the CSS directly. I would also like to see the browser icon change to something that honors the legacy of Firefox as a browser. As it is now, it amounts to an orange streak, which definitely says "Fire," but not so much "Fox."

I'm a Dolphin. I switched to Firefox from IE6 a million years ago and never used back. I also use it on my Android phone.

My biggest wishlist item is for improvements to Firefox Multi-Account Containers. I think this could be a killer differentiator between Firefox and Chrome/Safari/Edge and help users wall off sites from each other, improving isolation and security. The problem is that today they are hard to use. The Mozilla sync is buggy and often results in 1000s of extra containers being generated. The UI is kludgy and makes it hard to manage and edit containers. Authentication flows often launch you into a separate container, breaking the login process. You also have to install a separate extension to get Temporary Containers for sites to which you haven't designated a permanent Container, but this functionality is even more complex and confusing than Multi-Account Containers. If you baked these into the browser, improved their capabilities, made them much easier to use, and combined them with out-of-the-box anti-fingerprinting technology, you'd have a really powerful privacy story to tell.

My other nitpick is why do I have to click the double-chevron menu and then click Customize Toolbar to be able to rearrange the icons in the toolbar. Just let me click to drag them without having to open up the whole Customize Toolbar interface!

If you don't stop the battery/resource drain it is unusable on laptops. It drains my battery in half the time Brave or Vivaldi do. Firefox drains it in less than 3 hours. The other two stretch it as far as 6. Tested daily on two machines. It also crashes, slows and overheats the machine to unbearable levels. And it's been so for years now.

I am extremely happy about all the rest. Literally, zero complaints. Maybe just add a basic VPN on top of the paid one. But the resources/battery issue is a big deterrent. I just can't use it when on battery on the laptop. It remains the standard one on my mobile. But since i do research i'd prefer to have everything synched on one single browser rather than have three or four. Also to avoid clutter.

Howdy @jboscacci , long-time user, first-time poster. I'm a dolphin and a squirrel. I usually use Firefox on Ubuntu, macOS, and iOS, and from a technical perspective, I'm really happy with the technical progress the team's made since before Quantum, and how it's managed to stay (IMO) technically competitive with the other players in the space.

Thanks to you, the team, and the volunteers for what you've done, and what you continue to do for this project and this community.

My question to the team's also something of a plea. How is the core dev team, and Mozilla at-large, hoping to maintain Firefox's independence in a sustainable way? I know I'm not alone in voicing my concerns at Mozilla's stewardship of Firefox (and Thunderbird) over the past few years, which is frustrating given that many of the other options on the market force some serious privacy compromises. It's not lost on me that this can come across as entitled on my part, and I'll preempt that with a followup question...

Has Mozilla considered offering a paid version of Firefox, or a supporter plan, similar to what Signal does? There are many of us who, for lack of either time or skill, can't reasonably contribute to Firefox's code base, but who'd be able to support Firefox financially.

I apologize if these aren't the kinds of questions this post was looking for, but my concern for the future of this browser is genuine, and growing. You asked, "what's next for Firefox," and the sustainability of this project as a safe harbour away from Google and Microsoft especially, are the first things that come to mind for me.

I want Firefox to stop having so many security vulnerabilities. I'm not kidding. My company banned Firefox from all computers (and enforce it with their management software) because "every month we got a list of desktop software vulns and Firefox was always on the list so we banned it on everyone's computers"

Thanks to Firefox having constant vulns I literally can't use it anymore. My company is huge so this means that multiple 10's of thousands of professionals now can't use it.

All this other stuff you guys talk about is such a massive waste of time. Vertical tabs? Wall papers? Profiles? Please stop wasting our time. I need you to fix the browser so it doesn't constantly have vulns so I can try to get my IT dept to allow it again. Literally every single other feature the Firefox devs spend an ounce of time and effort on is effort thrown in the trash until this problem is fixed cause literally no one can use your browser when IT Depts keep banning it.

Use the business card metaphor for certs. eg. login to Google.com using your Google.com/Personal card or your Google.com Work card.

This kind of thing happens so often in so many websites I can't believe it's still a problem in 2025. I remember years ago there were extensions that would save your entered text in case the page got reset and it was lost but this needs to be built in you the browser. There's no excuse for not having this as a feature

Seriously. I have far more money than time. I already support multiple popular online donation sites, if I could support Firefox I would. But I don't know how I'm supposed to do that. I don't need any of their extra paid services. I just need Firefox to have a safe secure future

If you're a dev you're gonna be using Chrome dev tools no matter what. I don't think there's a way around that.

The memory usage is an issue. I keep my MacBook Air plugged in running 24/7 with multiple browser windows each with a different set of tabs, usually 20-40 tabs across all windows, part of this is dashboards for local apps, others are project researches, etc.. Well after a few days those tabs are taking up >12GB RAM on my 16GB RAM MacBook Air and I'm going into Swap for another 8GB+. So just sitting idle with a bunch of tabs open for a few weeks and now my MBA is juggling upwards of 24GB memory on 16GB RAM. And yes, it's noticeable, when the system is swapping this hard everything lags to hell and back.

Because of Firefox, and ONLY Firefox, I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to a 32GB RAM model. That cost me over $2000. All because Firefox uses tons of memory.

I've been with Firefox for at least 15 years. Closer to 20. So my years of "whoring after false icons" are behind me. More than anything I need Firefox to be strong on privacy and security. Realizing that it isn't good to define a thing by what it is NOT, I need Firefox to NOT be Google or Microsoft. Incorporating every bell and whistle just leads to bloated code and poor performance. Firefox may not always be the fastest, but it is fast enough, and then some. Let's keep it as lean and mean as possible for a modern browser. If I have to choose, then I suppose I'm an owl. Not necessarily by preference, but certainly from experience.

The other thing Firefox desperately needs is better marketing.

My next door neighbor was asking me which web browser is the best these days, I told him Firefox. His reaction? "I didn't know that still exists I haven't used Firefox in more than ten years"

People literally don't even know that Firefox exists. These are the same people asking me if they should use Brave or Edge.

I was driving down the highway a few months back and guess what I saw? A billboard for Duck Duck Go. Turns out they got their own browser now too. Literally more people are aware of the existence of Duck Duck Go web browser than Firefox. When I saw that billboard, I was pissed, because never in my life have I seen a billboard for Mozilla or Firefox on the side of a highway. Never have I seen an ad for Firefox in the subway. Or while scrolling on social media.

Where the heck is Firefox?!?! It seriously feels like us few enthusiasts are FORCED to keep evangelizing Firefox or risk Mozilla finally going out of business and we lose our web browser. It's seriously so frustrating to love this software so much and have to sit by and watch it's user share constantly erode while new competitors who aren't even better are able to swoop in with a bunch of subway ads and highway billboards and steal the user base that Firefox needed to survive. And it feels like every time the leadership at Mozilla prioritizes BS projects like AI, VPNs, useless extra services, instead of focusing on their core product, it's like they're giving the finger to the people who have been supporting Firefox from the beginning and just want to be sure that Firefox will continue to exist into the future.

Hi there.

I am a long time Firefox user and advocate. I am likely a minority, but one of things that keeps me on Firefox is that in some of its most historic values, it is an antithesis of Chrome. Limited tracking, privacy centric controls, not Google.

It is imperative to me that Firefox continues to uphold these values, and fight following in Chrome’s footsteps.

The features you mentioned: vertical tabs, task bar pinning, new tab wallpapers. These are utterly not important to me.

Features that make me safer on the web, or give me trust in the extension/addon market, or continue paving the way for a free and open internet are what matters. Not just today, but tomorrow, and forever.

Thank you.

thanks for making firefox! i use it a lot every day! vertical tabs are great, i've been using Nightly since it was introduced

as a 🐬 / 🦉:

echoing calls for split view! would help so much

i struggle a bit with keeping tabs organised. I use tab groups for different work contexts. some things that I think might help:

new tabs open directly under the current one, instead of at the end of the list. having new tabs open while keeping me in that group/context would help me stay focused

or a better but more involved way to solve this problem would be Spaces like Arc had for each different work context, so i don't even have to see the groups for other contexts

finally something that would be so helpful would be a way, while in devtools searching/filtering through console logs, to jump to a given log message in the context of the entire unfiltered log. cos i often need to see a sequence of logs and since there is no Find, only Filter, I can't jump to logs in context of their surrounding logs, which means i need to note millisecond timestamps and scroll til i find it lol

ty!

Dolphin, cheetah, something like that.

I've been daily-driving Firefox for 8 years in a row, and used it for the majority of the 2010s. Since Firefox is the only well-supported browser with competent ad blocker support, for me it wins by default. But, besides that, Firefox has been getting better over the last few years.

Back in 2017-2020, I'd have to keep a Chromium installation around because some web apps were broken if you tried to use them in Firefox. I couldn't tell you the last time I had that problem. I haven't experienced the performance issues others report, but I also don't open hundreds of tabs at once. I don't have a use case for HDR. So, in some regards, I'm sort of an ideal user.

I love tab sync. I love reader mode. I love tab pinning. Profiles mean I can keep my work stuff separate from my personal stuff.

Thank you for letting me turn off the new features I don't want. I don't like vertical tabs. I tried leaving the sidebar on, but I didn't end up finding it very useful, so I turned it off. To each his own. Please don't turn Firefox into Arc. If I wanted to use Arc, I'd use Arc.

I'd use tab groups a lot more if they persisted through restarts, like pins.

I don't get why Pocket stuck around so long, nor do I get why it was allowed to be so intrusive.

Page translations lag behind Chrome's. They're adequate for my needs, but there's more work to be done there.

No big criticisms, really. Keep doing what you're doing.

I would say I am an owl and a dolphin, which often leads me to finding tweaks for Firefox that I feel the browser should natively have.

NB.💯 is more important to me as user.

Here's a table:

Problem/Feature Area What I Experience or Want

Performance

Firefox loads slowly, uses a lot of RAM and CPU, and feels less responsive than Chrome. Sometimes, tabs freeze or the browser slows down if I leave it open for a while. This is my biggest gripe - the app hogs so much ram (I have 32GB on my machine and at times FF is eating about 70 percent of it). I've had to get an add-on that puts the idle tabs to sleep after some time, in order to address this. 💯

Stability

I notice frequent crashes—especially after updates—and sometimes encounter packaging problems on Linux versions like Snap or Flatpak.

Tab Management

I really want better tab management and smarter ways to organize lots of tabs.

Legacy Features

I miss features like “Do Not Track” and would love to see tab groups brought back.

Extensions/Sync

Syncing my add-ons, bookmarks, and settings across devices doesn’t always work reliably, and the limited extension support on mobile is frustrating.

New Tab Customization

I’d like to customize my new tab page more—add more top sites, rearrange them, or set a custom wallpaper/background. Mozilla should invest in some homemade themes that users can modify to change the look and feel of the browser.💯

Built-in Tools

I wish Firefox came with some tools built-in, like a stronger native ad blocker, or an advanced “Page Info” panel to manage media and site data.

Download Management

Managing large downloads would be easier if I could pause and resume downloads more conveniently from the browser.

Bookmarks

Saving and organizing bookmarks would be a lot better if I could search for bookmark folders directly or see more info when saving.

Flow area

There is this weird behaviour at a certain aspect ratio of resizing Firefox, I can drag the window around by click-hold-drag method - the overflow area becomes unusable with icons from the toolbar expanding and taking all that space even though I had given ample flex space under customization. This needs looking into and fixing. 💯

UI

I've seen some recs about how window splitting as is in Zen would be nice, and I'm honestly surprised how it isn't a feature here already.

Would be great to have this with good support to resize and switch between the split windows with shortcuts. 💯

Account Recovery

I had associated my work account email to a Firefox account. Backup codes were on the device and BSOD corrupted the SSD, it is wild to me that Firefox can't or won't let me back into my account via the email i used to sign up (MFA device was with Microsoft and crazily enough I didn't have access to that device as well).

This needs to be changed - you guys can video call me to vet my identity.

Finally - PLEASE GET RID OF YOUR LEADERSHIP, THEY ARE RUINING FIREFOX. ALL THIS AI STUFF WHILST REMOVING FAN FAVOURITES LIKE POCKET AND FAKESPOT ERODED A LOT OF TRUST WITHIN THE COMMUNITY, NOT TO MENTION THE ADS POLICY DEBACLE.

Not trying to scream here - just for emphasis. I honestly believe this is one of the best things to exist.

Firefox has always been my browser and despite the recent messiness, I will stick with it, so please don't let the community down.

Which topics should we cover during the AMA?

One thing my friends tell me they find annoying about Firefox is how dragging tabs works, since they come from Chrome and the behavior there is very different, that's one thing.

On the other hand, I would like to see a native split screen. The extension works well, but it breaks on some sites.

Improvements to the spell checker, making it more “intelligent” in a way. I feel that the way it works is too archaic and quite limited for today's standards and needs.

Add icons to the application menu, since you have to read what you're going to click on, and I feel that this affects the UX of the menu.

Improvements to the configuration interface, I feel that it lags behind other browsers.

Also, improvements to the Screen Capture feature

Improve the permissions interface because seriously, the UX is at a bad/acceptable level, it just works and that's it.

And this also comes with adding audio capture support. Last time (I don't remember if it was on MDN or in a forum), the reasons they gave for not implementing it seemed like excuses to me. They talked about how it was a violation of user privacy and how this was a risk, But that's why there are UX mechanisms to let the user understand what they are going to share. A valuable feature is lost in Firefox because of that way of thinking.

Which animal best represents your Firefox browsing style?

I'm both a cheetah and an owl.

With AI companions now commonplace in other browsers like Edge’s Copilot or Opera’s Aria, would the Firefox team consider adding an optional AI sidebar to Firefox for Android? This could support on-page summarization, smart querying, or task automation—all while keeping Firefox’s core promise of privacy and user control intact.

How might such an AI feature be designed to respect user data, remain toggleable, and still provide powerful enhancements that help Firefox stay competitive against emerging AI browsers like Comet or OpenAI's upcoming offering?

Regards

Firefox Android:

The address bar has become cluttered with buttons THAT SHOULDN'T BE THERE: "home" (useless), "translate" (won't go away no matter the setting), and now "share" (for real!?), "reading mode"; remove them from there, I can barely see the first few letters of the address! Also way too much spacing around them

I always have to manually close the previous tab when tapping on a link, let us reuse them instead, you may call us owls or wharever, but we don't like having zillions of tabs open to be closed automatically after x time

Improve speed, it's currently the slowest browser out there

Allow more customization (like about:config) and extensions, and for ex. to be able to remove the useless buttons from the address bar

Another complaint I forgot to mention.

My friends who have recently switched to Firefox complain about how the history works. They tell me that it works more like “The last time you visited a page” and does not keep the dates and times when that page was visited.

For example, if I visit the site example.com on 2025/01/01, then visit it again on 2025/03/21, and then visit it again today. In Chrome, according to them, it saves the three times they visited that page. I don't know if this is true because, at least in Edge, it works practically the same as Firefox (with a better interface tho), but it would be great if the history worked this way.

I want Firefox to add a smart sidebar that is AI agnostic by design.

Let me connect any AI I want, whether it is an open source LLaMA running locally or a closed API like OpenAI, by just plugging in an endpoint and API key. Then let that AI analyze whatever page I am on.

It could highlight contracts, summarize articles, compare prices, or cross check code. This gives users control to pick their own AI instead of being locked into a walled garden like Microsoft Edge with Copilot.

Mozilla could default to an open source model for privacy, but keep it fully pluggable. That is the kind of open web we still need.

I have been using Firefox since the time version 3 was about to be released. Many things have changed since then.
but I always missing the OLD UI design-ideology, the xul-runner stuff( or maybe I called it wrong); Something that allows you to achieve a high degree of customization, with extensions or without; MV stuff sucks, but it would take over, As users, we're too stupid, too naive, or too vulnerable to stop it — which makes it even more important that we build tech safeguards to protect ourselves. They're right — since that's how everyone was taught.

So maybe I’m just complaining. After all, with the rise of AIGC, I increasingly feel — as a pessimist — that the very existence of the internet itself is on shaky ground. So, what’s next for the browser? I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

Make them optional for those who care to share.

make sure Rumble videos do not stall after a few seconds. They play on Chrome without any problem.

bring back built-in support for opensearch, user js and user css (chrome directory)

That's all for now.

Long time firefox user for 8-9 years. I would really like to have better profile switcher/manager and more important different icons in taskbar for different profiles with some icons/color to distinguish, similar to chromium. Also being able to manage history bookmarks etc in the same window instead of opening small new window. I would really like to see these feature. I know Profile thing is still in works but it is still very bare-bones.

Hi!

I really love firefox and and I am concerned about its future. I really really want an option to just pay for it. Not to Mozilla Foundation and its charity work, but Mozilla Corporation proper, to fund Firefox development work.

I feel like we should be able to face a future without Google funding with serenity.

Love,

F.

It's disappointing to see so many people ask for split screen in the browser. A WM/DE already does that. That feature seems like bloat to me and my vote goes against it.

I'm definitely a squirrel and would like to be a cheetah. I'm held back by the fact that Vimium is held back by the extension API, e.g. it doesn't work in a new tab , which regularly destroys the flow. I vote for any solution to that issue. Native vim bindings perhaps?

I usually have ~10 windows open (manageable with a TWM) with ~10-30 tabs each. I regularly encounter what seem to be memory leaks or at least memory squandering. I've seen Firefox use >60 GB of RAM. about:memory is very helpful and the task manager as well. Sometimes it's just the Firefox entry in Firefox's task manager that takes many tens of GB which is hard to fix without restarting.

I love the browser, especially after seeing Google's rent seeking with manifest v3. I liked the AI sidebar and am always glad to see new features pop up, whether I use them or not. Keep up the good work!

So next to the bookmark name I'd be able to see how many new post there are, and folders could also indicate how many new posts there are.

I'd really love to have that in Firefox!

I'm an Owl. I think all European users will be grateful for having integrated tracking consent management advertised to websites via HTTP header. We don't need cookie banners, we don't need stuff like GTM, we need protocol-based tracking functionality that users can easily disable. It is unlikely that Google or Apple will start moving in that direction first, but a bold move by independent browser could inspire politicians to make it standard.

It might seem strange for someone who uses a lot of filters, but I'd actually like to see Mozilla ads in the wild. You probably develop this with Anonym.

The aspect that bothers me the most is information control and being pursued by irrelevant ads based on fleeting Dolphin interests that I might search for intensely in a moment of impulse.

If you search for vacuum cleaners or iPhone 7 cases out of procrastination or nostalgia, you'll end up with many types of vacuum cleaners and cases you no longer need. However, the algorithm will decide that you're a true fan of vacuum cleaners.

If there's a settings panel where I can adjust what I see and it works, then we'll consider that a good compromise in this brave new world.

I think a certain percentage of people would donate-like "buy" a browser. I might get one out of mischief, LOL.

Orion by Kagi is an example of how they manage to do this.

It's kind of the opposite of your model, but maybe it could be adapted. Be careful, though; I expect to see headlines like "Firefox is now paid."

I don't hear much about Anonym or what's going on there in general. As I recall, the website hasn't been updated in some places, but I see that you are actively working on updating it after moving to firefox.com.

I'm curious about fighting the dominant advertising networks in the world. Perhaps Google will lose some ground in another court case, creating more free space.

Some of them are quite interesting to read but are inaccessible if I'm using a custom site as a new tab.

- More customization for FF Android similar to Iceraven: custom new tab page/addon, choice in what icons show up in the address bar, Amoled or wallpaper based theming, etc.

Thanks,

A Firefox user

To start with: I'd describe my browsing style more like that one of an🦉 Owl – wise and methodical.

And in that context, there are a couple of things that I'd like to see improved in Firefox providing that "next gen" browsing experience. To start with:

[ User Interface ]

Although we have great extensions that provide us with the possiblity to use dark theme, including forcing a black background, I've seen multiple competing browsers providing this functionality either within the advanced settings ("about:config"), advanced settings within the menu, and some pretty straight forward within the menu

[ Performance / Settings ]

It would be great to have a more elaborate performance/optimization setting, that goes a bit further than only "optimized" "standard". I'd add an option for the normal user modes like: "maximum energy efficiency", "battery saver", "normal", "performant", "max boost". That would reflect something like: limited to 1/8 of the available cores or even single core, only CPU/GPU/NPU acceleration but only if this is not too taxing, classic battery saving profile, normal, performant (boosting the priority within OS limits), "max boost" means the browser never sleeps and uses every single speed optimization technique possible and not thinking once about "energy saving". It would be nice to have 3 modes in menu and the rest to be set in about:config or some kind of advanced menu.

rationale: being that guy that travels a lot, using both Apple, Linux and Windows on several processor architectures, there are times where I really don't bother with this. But travel means sometimes unpredictable scenarios and not always the ability to charge or plug your device. In such cases I throttle the AMD 8840u/6850u, Intel i9, Apple M3 or whatever I have at hand using the OS capabilities, but it would be nice to have a browser that makes life easier. To give you an example of my mileage. Let's take the older HP Elitebook 845 with the AMD 6850u as an example: without optimization, Linux Kernel 6.4.0, 32GB RAM, and only Browser + standard Linux, battery health @ 80%: about 5hrs with normal profile, 6.5hrs with no tinkering and battery saving, with limiting processor and firefox with specific tweaks: 8 hours 45 minutes. To me, that at times is a life safer

[ Android / iOS ]

Improved UI and customizations regarding DPI settings, (enforcing) specific fonts (or font groups) as well as sizes including improved immersive reading functionality would be appreciated by those with some visual challenges, or ... age 😎

(Forced) Safe Page as App (Android specific): Samsung Browser and most other browsers let us safe pages to the home screen, which is basically that link. Some pages can be safed as "apps" on the app screen. However, Chrome has some kind of feature that provides the possibility to even safe unsupported pages as an "app" on the App Page. A very useful feature if one is tight on storage or doesn't want to install a 700mb "App" for a news app, when the slimed down "Internet App", which is basically a wrapper, would be only something like somewhere between 2 and 20mb. Depending on which solution is used.

[ Security ]

We're living in strange times, one of the unique selling points (to me) for Firefox was (in the past) both its security profile and the "no frills or ads" approach. Security is an increasing topic, which also resonates in a lot of services we (supposed) to use online. Here are some things I'd like to see:

- AI Cloud Kill Switch: for those that really don't want to block all AI data being processed in the cloud, but would (in the future) like to use LOCAL (NPU/GPU enabled) AI ehancements

- All AI Kill Switch: be that browser that is about freedom of choice, if people really don't want to use AI, then don't force it on them. Even more: disable any NPU calls, use alternative routines, remove even menu items referring to AI when this kill-switch is enabled. Make AI an experience of a lifetime for those that can appreciate it, and don't force it on those that don't want it.

- "Personal Cloud" and "Local Sync": look, it's nice to sync your bookmarks and history in the cloud. But trust is declining, and some don't want to use Microsoft, Google, but don't even Mozilla Cloud for that matter when it comes to Syncing their data in the cloud. So, perhaps an idea to include the possibility, to synchronise bookmarks and Firefox data using a local folder, similar to Joplin, so one can place that folder either on their local file storage or their preferred NAS solution or (personal) cloud. Make this a feature supported on all platforms, from iOS/Android, Apple, Windows up to Unix and Linux and we've another selling point regarding security for Firefox 😀. Don't forget to include some encryption options, e.g. "generated keyfile" (e.g. certificate?) or "use your own FIDO2/Oauth" and/or classical "Password". Firefox was always about choices.

[ Overall UI ]

Try to utilize Operating and Platform specific implementations for smooth scrolling. One of the things I noted is that this varies a lot (depending on the OS/Platform), but which is not always the case with the competition. So, perhaps we can have a look at this particular problem to unify the overall user experience as being rock solid and similar regardless the OS one uses.

Personally, I would say that both the Performance profiles as well as the Security (to me) would me #1, AI Kill Switch would be a solid #2, and the rest #3 when it comes to priorities.

I am an Owl and Dolphin!

I love vertical tabs ad I would like to see an feature where you could see where the tabs I have opened came from. I’d really like to see a tree graph that shows the origin and navigation path of each tab. It would be nice to collapse a branch of tabs when I' done reading!

Dolphin here. I will give you some feedbacks to begin with.

First, grouping tabs works really well, so shout out to the team for the work. Also, I actually enjoy using the "AI chats" button on the vertical bar, as I can split screen with an existing tab.

What’s one thing you’ve always wanted to ask the Firefox team?

Will there ever be a hardware device made by Mozilla ?

Which topics should we cover during the AMA?

It is possible to add a split screens feature similarly to Zen browser ?

When clicking a link that is inside my "AI chat" tab, could you make it to open by default as a new tab in the browser (right now it loads in the AI chat tab and removes my current AI conversation)

Can you open source the code of Pocket ? I'm sure plenty of users would love to self-host it

My next requests are all about Firefox app on iOS :

Will there be Firefox extensions on iOS anytime soon ?

Now that European users of iOS can use browsers relying on their own engine (bye WebKit), do you plan to do something in that way ? Did you start a mobile browser engine project for iOS ?

Can you add an "install webapp" feature on Firefox iOS ? It has only been available on chrome and safari, so far

Hello!

Thanks for all the hard work on Firefox! I'm an Owl and a Cheetah.

I'm sure you've heard of the Zen Browser. Would it be possible to collaborate with the maintainers of that project? I hope such a collaboration would allow them to focus on the UI, and you to focus on the engine (performance and resource usage).

As a next step, I’d suggest collaborating with other popular open-source forks of Firefox. I believe the fragmentation of the Firefox community is hurting the project too much.

Hi Guys! Thanks for all your hard work! Love the Firefox look and feel, but I have few remarks:

0. Would be great to have all browser appearance customization (tabs, views, fonts, sizes, themes, colors, etc.etc.) options in 1 Settings tab (see my attached image). Otherwise, everything is scattered across different popup windows, menus, hidden buttons, etc. Even when you wasted 10 min to find it, after 1 hour, you already forgot where it was.

1. I would love to see higher level of customization, and even more - like in Edge browser. Where you can easily manage/show/hide/toggle/etc. almost anything in the screen.

2. I am fond of minimalism and compact design. I think, Firefox would benefit from customization options to top-bar and tabs, where I could:

change (reduce) the size of tabs (width, height)

reduce the size (height) of search bar.

Be able to optionally hide "address/search bar", when I am already on the website. Hovering on a tab, should show full URL with query params. Then, to have some hotkey, which pops up "search/input" similar to Spotlight on MacOS

Tabs groups redesigns. IMHO, they are ugly and useless. Groups could be designed more like compact "folder"

Better/Different scroll bar design

Theme colors picker

3. Obviously, better performance. Tested opening different sites and group of sites vs Edge,Chrome on Windows 11. Firefox usually consumes ~20-30% more memory.

4. Tabs/Search are taking too much of a vertical space. Especially tabs - IMHO their vertical padding could be reduced (configured via tabs appearance settings?)

5. Reader view:

more fonts options

line/section focus feature, where you can jump up/down with keyboard arrow buttons. I like the section highlight, when using "Read Aloud" feature

Explain word/Dictionary feature, initiated by double-click (or... "configure"?), where I can read word meaning (not translation), and save this word to some list

6. Single-line (row) top-bar. Currently, tabs and address bar sit on separate rows. Why we need to waste vertical spacing for address bar. Maybe it's possible to combine into 1?

FF should innovate by bringing actual new ideas. For example, pressing back on a newly opened tab should bring back the user on the original tab. My elderly parents doesn't notice tab opening and for these kind of users, making a more user friendly 'go back' button should work as expected

Hey Firefox team!

Thanks for checking in with the community — love this initiative!

One thing I’ve really been hoping for is a complete Mozilla bundle that includes Firefox Relay, Mozilla VPN, and a password manager. Right now, these are great individual products, but combining them into one integrated privacy-focused ecosystem would be super convenient for users.

As someone based in Germany, I haven’t seen such a package offered here — and I think it would be a smart move not only for user experience but also as a sustainable way for Mozilla to generate more revenue while staying true to its values.

Looking forward to what’s coming next!
🦉 Owl – wise and methodical

I'm a Squirrel, Cheetah and a Owl.

I use multiple windows each having a dedicated context. These windows may live for a year - as long as the task draggs itself.

Firefox is awesome. Recently I also started using it as my password manager on mobile devices.

I just want one feature on desktop which would be awesome; But is fairly clunky to implement as an extension due to the requirements.

Currently one can press 'Ctrl+L', insert %\w* for searching tabs.

A killer feature for me would be:

Hitting Spacebar twice and open up a window local buffer menu, showing tabs in a list with respecting numbers to refer to, so I can memoize these within a session.

Exactly like vim does it with something like this (from memory): `:nnoremap <SPC><SPC> :ls<CR>:b `. I can quickly filter this list by typing words.

With the current implementation, the initial shown list always prompts tabs I don't have in the window open, cuts it after 9 entries and the filtering isn't very reliable.

It would be much nicer beeing able to refer to tabs with: tab-number, url, html-title, html-description.

Cheers.
