Like many other users, the upgrade to 130.0.2 made Firefox unusable on websites I regularly use (Bandcamp and Mixcloud to name two). I use Avast for antivirus and have seen today that the website issues were down to a known issues for Avast and AVG users, that were fixed with today's release of 130.0.3

I've updated accordingly, but no sign of any fix sadly. Firefox still can't load the websites I've used, without problems, for years. Even Google search won't work!

Duck Duck Go loads everything without any issues, so it appears I've found my fix, but was happy with Firefox until now. Is release 130.0.4 imminent or do I stay with DDG?

Thanks for testing Phil. Are you sure you were using 130.0.3? The fix should be in 131.0.3, which was just released.

Hi Jesup,

Apologies, that was my keying error. Yes, 131.0.3 still has same issues as 131.0.2. I can't use Firefox currently

Thanks for confirming. So you're seeing crashes on certain sites with 131.0.3. Can you give example URLs, and can you share the reports from about:crashes for these? (cut-and-pasting the IDs here is enough). Perhaps also the output of about:support

We really appreciate your helping out here. Since we removed the code that was causing the crashes, we really want to find out what's going on.

One possibility is that it's not crashing anymore, but Avast is still breaking access to sites using http3. As a workaround so you don't have to use DDG, when not doing a test for us you can set the about:config pref network.http.http3.enable to false.

I'd like to know if this Avast crashing fix is coming to 115.16.x ESR. I've been having the same issue since the update to 115.16.1 back on the 9th.

Hi Jesup, thanks

The URLs that I'm noticing it on are

https://www.mixcloud.com

https://bandcamp.com

Not sure how to share crash reports or output? The sites aren't crashing, they just either aren't loading at all (Mixcloud) or load but won't play any media (Bandcamp). I don't understand your last paragraph. If this is a technical discussion group then I'm probably in the wrong place. I'm was just wondering when the bugs will be fixed? As I say, everything working fine on DDG, so it can't be my PC or Avast's issue.

Hi Jesup

I've just discovered that if I connect to Firefox via VPN, then everything works as usual. Without VPN, Firefox won't work. As discussed, DDG works either way (as a control test)

Thanks

Phil

The problem is in the Avast Web Shield. DDG (or Chrome or Brave) will work fine. You can disable Avast and use Microsoft Windows built-in Antivirus and Firefox will work fine. Or you can disable the "web shield" in the Avast Settings/Protection/Core Shields to solve the problem. You might need to reboot, but you don't need to reinstall Firefox.
