Why did my layout switch to Cards from table when I upgraded to Thunderbird 139.0?

I've never chosen a Cards View, but when I upgraded to Thunderbird 139.0 today, I had to scramble around to return my view to the trusty table. What happened? Can it be fixed before to many others hit this? I'm running on an up-to-date Arch Linux distribution under XFCE4.

Thanks for reporting this. The bug report is at Bug 1968963 - Table View changed to Card View on upgrade 138->139. My inbox changed so that each message took up two lines plus a blank line between each message.

@Gerard, did you update from 138? Or some other version?

Problem found with versioning, not with the code. Should be fixed very soon.
