firefox updates

I like Firefox and have used it for many years, but I am now finding that every update seems to add extra "Bells & Whistles" to the point where it is no longer a simple browser. By all means update the security, but all I need is a browser to get me round the internet with maybe search engine other than google.

You could switch to the Extended Support Release (ESR) (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/switch-to-firefox-extended-support-release-esr😞

First, set FF to 'Set updates to Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them'. Then

- go to FF menu > Help > More troubleshooting info

- under the Application Basics section next to Profile Folder, click 'Open folder'

- install the ESR version from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/desktop-esr/

- before restarting the older version, delete the compatibility.ini file in the profile folder

- close the profile folder and start FF
