I'd love to see these features implemented:

Having Tab Groups saved and synced in my Mozilla Account.

Having them show up in the "Firefox View" tab with an overview similar to the Tab Stash addon.

Being able to pick icons/emojis for the group name.

Hello everyone,

My name is Devin Sandoz and I’m a product marketing manager at Mozilla. @ssmagula is the product manager. I'm posting on behalf of the Tab Groups team who are working to help you be more productive and happy when using Firefox. We want to thank you for all your helpful feedback in Mozilla Connect and invite you to help us improve Tab Groups before a wider release.

What are Tab Groups?

Tab Groups will help you organize your tabs. Whether you keep your tab bar tidy with just a few tabs or you hoard thousands of tabs, Tab Groups will make it easier than ever to switch between and re-find tabs and tasks—all while maintaining the privacy of Firefox. Say you’re planning a vacation over spring break. A group will help you to keep all your flight searches, lodging options, local restaurants in one easy to re-find place.

Join the Firefox Tab Groups Preview

Download Firefox Beta — Tap the Download button, follow the instructions to install, and then launch Firefox Beta. If you already have Beta installed, update to the latest version

Use tab groups for all your browser tasks

Share your feedback, comments, questions, possible bugs, and ideas for the future in this thread. Your feedback will be valuable as we work through known issues and discover new issues.

Tab groups in action

Tab groups help you stay organized and focused

Creating groups

Once fully released, there will be a helpful call-out explaining how to create groups. To create a group drag a tab on top of another tab and pause until you see a highlighted drop area, then release it. Or right-click any tab and select Add tab to group. Next you can name it. For example, you might want to create a group called News. Add news sites by dragging them into any expanded group. When you’re done catching up on the news, select “Save and close group” so you can remove it from your tab bar and re-open the group the next day. All your groups—open and closed—are always available via the “list all tabs menu” (a downward-facing caret at the right of the tab bar)—even if you close a window or restart, no account needed.

Known issues

Our team is working hard to make Firefox Tab Groups the best they can be, and we thank you for your help and patience as we discover and smooth out any rough edges.

Faster, better, easier

At Firefox Tab Groups are just part of a larger effort to improve browser productivity. Our designers and developers are creating new tools to improve productivity and efficiency including a sidebar with vertical tabs, better profiles. Our goal is to help you achieve more with less effort so that you can focus on your spring break vacation, and not on your tabs or the browser.

We can't wait for you to try Tab Groups so you can tell us what you think!

I would love to see a feature that automatically groups tabs from the same site into tab groups. For instance, if I open two YouTube tabs, they would be automatically grouped together. Additionally, I would like to see a stacking feature, where these grouped tabs not only appear together but also stack on top of each other. When I hover over the stack, it would display a list of the tabs within it, allowing me to easily select which one to switch to. This would free up a ton of space in tabs.

I don't think any other browser has a feature like this and I think it would be pretty useful.

Great, thank you, we've been waiting for this for a long time, it's a really convenient and necessary feature.

Now, the most missing feature is the ability to move collapsed group labels.

The ability to group tabs by simply moving the tab to the label of the collapsed groups.

And like in edge, when you hover over a group label, the preview should show tabs without expanding the group label, and show the number of tabs.

Also, an additional feature to automatically group tabs without user intervention, for example, by domain, similar to chrome extensions.

Grouping of tabs for the mobile version of Firefox.

The ability to choose a custom color for group labels.

Is any of this already in development or in the pipeline?

I hope that:

Even when there is an extremely large number of (unloaded) tabs, all basic tab operations remain smooth and lag-free.

A flexible and practical API is provided for extensions so that, as long as the extension implementation is solid, its operational performance can match that of native tab operations.

I'd love the ability to move the groups around. Having them stuck in place is extremely frustrating

The ability to hide a group would be extremely useful. That way I could group some tabs, hide them, and then come back to them at a later date when I'm ready to continue that project. I know that "save and close groups" does this, but that's a very dangerous sounding action, with no indication before using it how to recover from save.

I just downloaded Vivaldi to see what you meant, and yeah, this is exactly what I was talking about. I had no idea that someone had already done something like this.

So if anyone was wondering, in vivaldi you can stack tabs like so
The 3 on the end being the amount of stabs in stack.

When you hover over that stack, you'll get a drop down menu to select tabs from with in that stack to jump to.

Please add two things to make this perfect:

1. The option to keep one tab visible when the group is minimized.

2. The option to collapse and expand the group by double-clicking the active tab of the group.

Pretty please with sugar on top. Even if just as a config flag. Please. Nobody has to know. It will be our little secret.

Okay, sorry for being weird. I really, really want these two features. Please make it happen.

I've just switched to using vertical tabs with tab groups in v136 with the requisite config options enabled. Seems like a pretty good setup so far. One thing I want already, though, is a button to add a new tab to a group. I know you can do it with a right-click, but it'd be cool to have it doable with one action. Alternatively or in addition, being able to Cmd-T a new tab in the current group would be nice. Maybe it could be a config option or a slightly different T-based key combo. If this functionality happens to already exist, let me know!

Thank you for working on tab groups! I don't have that many requirements for such a feature. Only one thing is essential for me: I use a lot of tabs and my way of working involves moving tabs around a lot. And that's exactly what I want to do with tab groups as well. I need certain structures to work with and at the same time I need the flexibility to be able to adapt these structures at any time. Unfortunately, moving groups is not (yet?) possible. As soon as this is possible, I will definitely use tab groups. Unfortunately, without this option, I can't use it yet.

I'm mostly focusing on the vertical tabs feature + tab groups. It's a bit weird trying to create tab group with the mouse. I'm wondering if yall could change it to be more like Sidebery's implementation. I have vids to show the weird behavior vs how it's done in Sidebery.

Can I collapse all my groups? Or do I have to have at least one group expanded (or a tab outside of the groups)?

Sometimes clicking a coulor groups's square collapses a group and sometimes opens a new empty tab inside this group - do I miss a logic of this action? Maybe should be different actions to open new tab inside the group and outside of any groups?

As i already suggested in original thread we need some form of autogrouping. Maybe semi-auto by clicking on specific button. But grouping by domain (like in Vivaldi f.e.) or even better by set set of rules is essential in my opinion. For work related issues possibility to open new tab from bug tracker f.e. in specified group tab for specific work environment and not in same group tab from where it was opened would be great. If we could set rules (akin filter rules for mail in Thunderbird) for where to move new tab upon opening it - even better.

I would like the tab groups are always visible and restored in the tab bar if I close the browser. Having to restore them every time I open the browser is anoying. I work with many groups and need to have them organized in the tab bar always so I can have fast access.

Tha would be great if we had something comparable to the Chromium-Browser extension "Tab Groups Extension" where we can setup rules for auto tabs, example I can set up a group-tab called "Shopping" with rules like hostname includes "amazon" - "Newegg" or "ebay" and whenever I open a page on these websites it automatically go to the group "Shopping" or create it if it isn't there yet, and I can do the same with many others groups (e-mail, social networks, news...), making it easier to manage tabs (and groups) and the experience is customized to everyone's liking

A keyboard shortcut to add a new tab to the right (and in the current group) would be great. I see I can right click a tab and add a new tab to the right, but I don't think there's any way to do that from the keyboard.

I used to use the following shortcuts and loved it

Cmd+T: open a new tab to the right. The new tab remains in the current tab group if there is one
Cmd+Y: open a new tab at the end of my tab list. The new tab is not in a group

I think adding a "New tab to right" to the file menu would be very helpful and allow us to bind shortcuts to it.

If you go to the settings it can even do more. In your screenshot it shows the compact way to represent tab grouping/stacking

This is how all modes looks, I prefer two-level and Accordion, but I like the Accordion style in Firefox which is exactly like in Chrome.

Vivaldi also have Workspaces, which act like the old Tab grouping way in Firefox, which I badly need along Tab-grouping/stacking and profiles.

What I don't like about workspaces in Vivaldi that the work space button/name is right there on the tab bar, I wish to just have the icon, and when I click on it, I would see a list of work spaces.

I also wish to be able to save tabgroups/workspaces, Bookmakring is not a good alternative because you lose the tabs' history.

First of all, this is awesome. Thank you!

In no particular order, the following additions/changes awesome for my workflow.

Drag a tab (or several) into a closed group.

Add tabs to the current group either after the current tab or at the end of the group using keybinds.

Move groups by dragging. Maybe including selecting multiple groups at the same time. Dragging into a new window.

Clarify "Save an close groups". To me it's not clear what it does (i.e where it saves to and how to restore it).

Fine tune creating a group by dragging one tab on to another. (Feels a bit finicky atm.)

Collapse all groups at once.

Share groups to other devices

Autogrouping by website or other attribute.

Search for tabs within a group.

Hovering on other group shows maybe the number of tabs it contains or a preview of the tabs.

Maybe subjective, but I think closing the last non-grouped tab shouldn't open a closed group.

Reopening a previously closed tab (Ctrl+shift+t) should probably add back to the original group.

Suggestion/request, I like the idea of having the option to have the tab groups pinned in the new vertical sidebar even if vertical tabs are disabled.

In such cases, on selecting a group from the vertical sidebar, the group of tabs appear in the horizontal tab bar. Ungrouped tabs remain in the horizontal tab bar like normal.

I'd also like more clarification on how tab groups interact with the 'Clear Browsing & Download History On Close' setting. I know that setting prevents pinned tabs from persisting between sessions, and I would like to know whether that oversight applies to tab groups data as well, or if there will be an option to clear browsing history, but not clear tabs from tab groups between sessions. (Or if tab groups are retained using a different method).

As more information becomes available, we'll share it.

I'm intrigued by your comment about custom colors. Can you tell me more:

Would you use custom colors to color code groups in ways that are not possible with the current palette? For example, would you use custom colors to represent high to low values, like: distance, cost, value, urgency?

Would you use custom colors to represent groups by the specific hue, saturation, brightness of something contained in the group? Like a purple group for Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Finance?

Would you want to use the same set of custom colors repeatedly instead of or in addition to the standard palette?

Hello @SuperMatt Thanks for your feedback. Please keep it coming.

The ability to reposition a group along the tab bar is definitely valuable. The Tab Groups team is hard at work on making the tab group experience better and better. We will share more information as it becomes available.

Regarding the ability to hide a group and retrieve it later. This is possible right now. Right-click any group label and then select "Save and close group." When you need to retrieve the group you can either:

Click on the group name under the "Recent Tab Groups" list in the "List all tabs menu"

In horizontal tab mode: this is a downward facing caret at the right of the tab bar

In vertical tab mode: see the icon that looks like a rectangle with a drawer below

Search for the group name in the search box, then click on the group name

Hi, thanks for any improvements to the tab groups!
Yes, everything you wrote is exactly what want, to choose my own different colors that I want, so for some tasks different colors, for important tabs certain colors, for less important ones other colors, also sometimes for sites that have certain colors, then the selection of similar colors, as there are few standard colors presented, and this makes confusion.
So can choose a shade and so on.
So periodically, can use a certain set of colors, you can leave a certain set of colors saved, and periodically choose another set of other colors you want.
Now, only 1 browser has implemented custom colors for tab groups, it's Edge Canary, if it appears in Firefox, it will be great and also unique.

What is a common scenario that describes when, with whom, and why you'd like to be able to share a tab group?

How many people would you anticipate sharing with most often: just one person, a group, or anyone with the link?

Once you have shared a tab group, what would you expect?

Would some people have the right to customize the shared group?

Would you desire or expect to be able to collaborate on the tabs in the group? What types of collaboration would be most valuable?

So that I am sure I understand #1: when you collapse a group with the active tab in it, you'd like to collapse the group and save space, except the tab that is active and inside the group would remain visible? And perhaps it would be visibly associated with the collapsed group?

That's right. I imagine it would look like a group with just one tab in it.

This would be perfect for a group of videos for example. You can just watch one video anyway (well, except when you use PiP) so I just need to see one tab of that group at a time.

Thanks for taking the time and interacting here!

It sounds like the goal of stacking is to make more tabs accessible in a smaller amount of screen real estate.

Is tab stacking something you would you like turn on for certain groups, or for all groups?

Is this more compact way of rendering tabs something that might automatically appear to address overcrowding? I.e. When there are more than a certain number tabs in a group, compact mode turns on.

Hi, I think I see your scenario of use more clearly now: when you have a tab that receives the majority of your attention for a good amount of time ("You can just watch one video anyway") it's useful to expose this tab without exposing all the others in the group. It's a bit like temporarily ungrouping the tab.

Please keep the ideas coming.

Yeah, you may want to have a group of videos, watching one of them and still switch to other tabs or groups. You'd have to choose between keeping the video group expanded, which negates the space saving aspect of the feature or you'd have to expand and collapse the group all the time which is impractical imo.

While I have you: I encourage you guys to please take a few minutes and check out the tab stacking feature of Opera 12.18. Ten years old now and their Tab Stacking still feels absolutely fantastic and fresh. Not the worst source for inspiration imo.

I think you should be able to choose if you want them all to do this or just 1 group.

The example I posted with Vivaldi is a pretty good example of what I mean.

Instead of just having your little colored box when a tab group is "minimized?" it'd be a normal looking tab, but colored like groups are normally if that makes since. It'd show the number of tabs you have stacked. So maybe something akin to this Forgive my paint skills. Lol

when you hover your mouse over the stack, a drop down window would pop out and let you select a different tab in the stack.

The drop down would look something like this with preview windows.

And again, I think the option of having things from the same site Group, or stack automatically would be a great addition.

One feature I wish we had is the ability to open a bookmark folder as a tab group—I believe Chromium based browsers have this feature.

I would suggest that Firefox implements a similar functionality found in Microsoft Edge. When a Tab Group is closed, if the pointer hovers on the Tab Group, a display of the tabs in the Tab Group is visible, making it easy to change to those tabs without having to expand the tab group.

I have been testing out the betas for a few days now and I think this look promising. I thought I should share my wishlist:

Workspsaces
A few others have also mentioned workspaces so I will share how I use workspaces.
Today I use Edge workspaces to keep track of different projects I am involved in at work. A workspace is opened in its own window and might consist of a set of tab groups, a flat list of tabs, or both. Two different workspaces might have the same type of tab groups. I.e., two different workspaces can have tab groups with same name and purpose but those tab groups does not share tabs. I guess one could look at workspaces as tab groups with subgroups.
For example I might have:

Workspace A(Project A)

Project documentation

Bug reports

Code reviews

Document reviews

Workspace B(Project B)

Project documentation

Bug reports

Code reviews

Document reviews

Keyboard shortcut to show all available tab groups
There is of course allready Ctrl+Shift+T but that is not only tab groups and only the four latest tab groups. I am looking for something like how Simple Tab Groups do it. Or how it was implemented with Panorama long time ago.

Some kind of overview. Again as Simple Tab Groups/Panorama.

Keyboard shortcut to open a new tab in same tab group as the current tab.

Configuration to allways open a tab group in its own window by default. (Not really needed if there were workspaces available.)

Thanks for the response @ssmagula.

I'm thinking it would be most useful when planning a trip with my partner, or if we're shopping for something and I can easily send over a group of tabs. Being able to add a note would be a nice touch too. And I imagine it would be great for students working together on projects.

Friends and family.

I would expect the recipient to then be able to add to the group and customize it on their own, which wouldn't affect how the group appears in my browser unless it is shared back.

Some tabs, particularly docs and such, could be collaborated on. But again, if they chose to close out any of the tabs or remove them from their browser, it would be independent of my original group.

Hi! Ever since the out-of-the-box "Panorama" functionality had been removed from Firefox many years ago, I had stuck it out with projectdelphai's addon mimicking the original Panorama tab grouping functionality.

What I mainly loved about that tab grouping add on was that moving tabs between groups can be done visually, via drag-and-drop. That kind of functionality would be amazing if it can be integrated into the existing return of native tab grouping in Firefox!!

I have tested tab groups in beta and v136 now for about a week and I think it look promising so far. I do have a wishlist though.

Workspaces
A few others have allready mentioned this so I thought I should share how I use workspaces.
Currently I use Edge workspaces to keep track of different projects I am involved in at work. A workspace can contain a collection of tab groups, a flat list of tabs or a mix of both. One can see a workspace as a tab group with subgroups. Different workspaces might have similar setup. E.g., tab groups with same name and purpose but different content. I mimic this in FF by prepending tab groups with project name and have all those opened in same window. It clutters the tab groups list though.
A simple example how it might look in Edge:

Workspace A

Project documentation

Bug reports

Code reviews

Document reviews

Workspace B

Project documentation

Bug reports

Code reviews

Customer documentation

Remember last used tab when opening a closed tab group

Keyboard shortcut to open tab group list. Ctrl+Shift+T kind of work but is not only for tab groups and only work if Ctrt+T is setup to navigate tabs in most recently used order.

Option for new tabs to open in same tab group as current tab.

Option to open a tab group in new window by default.

Some kind of overview as with Panorama/Simple Tab Groups

I have a simpler auto grouping mechanism idea, that collect container tabs into tab group, which is easier to implement, moreover it would be great to have tab sleep and tabgroup backup which similar to the simple tab group extension

While you're making changes to the tab bar for tab grouping, I would love if you would also fix the accessibility issues that were introduced several years ago. Specifically, the tab bar should use the Windows accent color, and tab separators need to be brought back, especially for pinned tabs.

https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/default-theme-should-respect-system-accent-color/idi-p/214

https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/make-tabs-visually-distinguishable-from-another/idi-p/7295

It would be great to see these longstanding accessibility issues fixed as part of this effort.

In my opinion, a good feature would be the ability to assign containers to a tab group. For example: let's say I'm creating a new tab group for shopping and during creation I'm able to choose which container this tab group uses by default.

Along with this (not sure if it was already mentioned somewhere) it would be useful to have an additional shortcut which enables to open a new tab (respecting assigned container to current tab group) below/after the current tab.

Definitely need workspaces. I use them to keep different workflows separate from each other. Profiles aren't good enough if you have to jump between the workflows quickly. Say you keep News in one workspace and Work in another, you wouldn't want to intermingle the two. At the same time you might have a lot of groups inside each workspace for more fine-grained separation. If you don't have workspaces all those groups of News and Work would end up in the same screen space mixed together, even when you're not actively using them. Clicking "Save and close group" on all countless groups you're not currently using would be a nightmare, and switching profiles would stop you from interacting with the two workspaces simultaneously. In Floorp you do have workspaces implemented but they're not great, and very tedious to handle. What I do like is that there are keyboard shortcuts available to quickly switch between them (I like the shortcut that works exactly like switching tabs, right/left=ctrl+tab/ctrl+shift+tab but two other buttons that do the same but for workspaces), but re-ordering them, creating and removing them isn't very efficient. Optimally the workspaces would show up on the right side (and left option) of the browser solely as icons without names, where you can easily drag-n-drop them around exactly like the way regular tabs work.

In regards to the sidebar that opens up bookmarks/history etc, there should be an option to float to stop webpages from resizing every time you open it. It can seriously mess things up on certain webpages even after closing the sidebar.

Thank you so much ! I'm very excited for this feature, I've been waiting it for many years !

I didn't know of this feature until I accidentally moved a tab onto another tab. It should be more discoverable.

I need separate "New tab" actions (different shortcuts and/or a dropdown from the "New tab" button) :

"New tab" (out of any group)

"New tab in this group"

When I open a link from another app, it opens in the current group. I find it annoying but I understand it could be useful for someone. Maybe a config flag should be added ?

I would like to rename the tab group by double-clicking (or long-clicking) on its name, without opening the right-click menu.

so i am still having an issue where i lose all my tabs that are in groups completely and cant be recovered. if for what ever reason Firefox closes or is closed by mistake.

is this something being looked at ? as it kind of defeats the idea of having groups if you lose the lot on a restart. better of staying with just separate windows.

I can't tell if it's a bug or not, but it would be nice if when I re-open my browser, it re-opens with the same tab groups it had when closed. If not, at least add the tab groups to the history of closed tabs/windows so I can recover them.

Whenever I moved tabs around the container grouping was too aggressive in trying to make a group so I ended up disabling the feature entirely. It would also be nice if there was a UI option to disable it instead of having to manually set browser.tabs.groups.enabled to false.

The only feature I have found missing is the ability to pin a tab group. I have some tabs open for work that I need to re-open every single day, but I need them randomly throughout the day - so I have them in a group. Each day I have to re-open these 3 tabs and create the group. I could save and close the group at the end of the day, but if I forget to I have to create them again. Being able to have these persist automatically through sessions would be great!

For me also, the "ability to move collapsed group labels" is absolutely the number one need that I'm waiting for. I tested out the current Nightly build (138.0a1) and sure, there is a new feature regarding Tab Groups; if a group is collapsed I can now move a single or even multiple (with CTRL + click) tabs between tab groups but what I still can't do is that I can grab from the tab group label and move the whole group to another place.

Also, I think it's unconvenient that everytime you hold a mouse on a tab that is part of a group, it always starts to remove it from the group. It would be great if I could lock the tab group so that if the group is locked I can drag the whole group from any of the tabs. This too easy of a tab removal from a group is the most annoying thing happening for me currently. Especially when there's a single tab in a group, the group will always disappear and that is SO easy to happen. It happens to me very frequently.

Thanks for making it possible to give feedback.

That's a wonderful Idea: Copy/cut tab groups/tab stacks to a new window or profile, and the same for workspaces (or how tab group used to be in Firefox)

I also like to add the option to "Bookmark" Tabgroup/tabstack and work spaces. Basically if you have to halt the project or research for sometime then you will "bookmark" preserving tab history AKA session history. IT MATTERS. I use bookmarks and MANY times I needed to go back, but the history was lost.

Only feature really missing for me is the ability to drag-drop closed tab groups (the tab group itself, not the tabs in it). For instance, in Chrome right now I have 5 distinct tab groups which I can order however I see fit and that really helps organize my pages.

Otherwise, seems perfect!

First off, a huge thanks to the Mozilla developers for bringing tab groups and vertical tabs to Firefox! These features are a fantastic addition, and I appreciate all the work going into their development. Since they’re still evolving and on the path to general availability (GA), I’d love to see the following enhancements included in the GA release:

1. Keyboard Shortcuts

•Open or jump to a tab group (focused view – see below)

•Add the current page to a tab group

•Create a new tab below the current tab or at the bottom of the tab list within a group

Keyboard shortcuts are essential for efficiency, and having these built-in would greatly improve usability.

2. Focused View

Rather than displaying multiple tab groups in the sidebar, it would be great to have an option for a focused view, where only the tabs from the selected group are visible while others remain hidden. Ideally, this could be toggled using keyboard shortcuts, allowing for quick switching between tab groups in a distraction-free manner.

3. Multi-Account Containers Support

Currently, tab group colors overlap with Multi-Account Containers, leading to duplicate or conflicting color schemes. Since I (and many others) rely heavily on containers to separate work and personal browsing, it would be great to see better integration—or at least a solution that avoids visual confusion. I understand that integrating Multi-Account Containers with tab groups may pose challenges due to existing constraints, which leads me to my next point.

4. Native Workspaces

If integrating Multi-Account Containers proves too complex or introduces technical debt, perhaps a new native implementation—something like Workspaces—could be a better long-term solution. Having a built-in way to fully separate data (e.g., work vs. personal) would be invaluable. While I recognize this would take time to develop, I believe it’s an essential feature that should be part of Firefox natively rather than relying on extensions.

Thanks again for all your efforts! I’m really excited to see how these features evolve.

Coming from Edge and using tab groups vertically has been a mixed bag.

I can’t move or sort the group only individual tabs. Frustrating.

I don’t see a way to tie groups to my account so I can open tabs but not tab groups when I move between different computers.

Bookmarks are imported from edge but not tab groups (maybe ms doesn’t expose them?). Few things are more frustrating than have to rebuild from scratch. It’s a real deterrent to switching.

That’s interesting. At first glance, it appears that the profiles create a separate browser instance. I was hoping to have a single browser window that “containerizes” and separates data based on use (e.g., work or personal). This way, I wouldn’t have to bounce around to different browser instances and just use keyboard shortcuts to navigate between containers/profiles.

Does Mozilla know about Zen Browser does the Firefox Team use the Zen Browser and than use some of what it has as a refence to build future versions of it like Nightly and what not?

I have a couple of screenshots showing how tab groups work in Chrome and Edge. I think Mozilla should take notes from these browsers and keep refining the tab grouping feature in future Firefox updates.

Tab Groups in Chrome

Tab Groups in Edge (1)

Tab Groups in Edge (2)

I think these features would be a great introduction when they hit Firefox Stable. You can refine them later in the Nightly and Beta/Dev builds. Maybe we could do something like Vivaldi in the future, but right now, the tab groups feature in Nightly feels underwhelming compared to what we have in Chromium browsers.

Love this addition peeps, great work! Feels like the implementation is at a great level with just creating a group on the fly with a simple color diff and naming. Would love to see a better styling for when it is open or not somehow tho, as it is a bit hard to grasp at it is.

I got a weird fun bug popping up when I try to drag in a pinned tab into a tab group. Hell breaks loose on FF Dev 137.0b10 (aarch64). The bar grows vertically and positioning system gets really screwed up. See attached video gif.

Sounds like the goal is to keep the group minimized in the tab bar (to save space and clutter), but have access to a preview of the tabs within the group easily, so you can select one of them? Would you also want that tab to be active without necessarily expanding the group? (to save space on the tab bar)

Is that close?

I'm happy to report that the ability to reposition a group along the tab bar is now possible in Firefox Nightly. If you are using Nightly: just drag a group label along the bar, and then drop it.

First of all, thank you for working on this feature, Firefox has been my main browser since forever and it is one of the modern features that it was missing the most.

What i would suggest based on my testing (mostly horizontal tab related):
1- Be able to drag to move the whole tab group in the tabs bar
2- Be able to drag a tab into a tab group when the tab group is collapsed

Again, thank you for your efforts and amazing work !

I'd like the option to be able to switch to a group, rather than having all groups show on the toolbar and manually closing and saving groups to hide them.

So, instead of right clicking and choosing "Save and Close group" for all groups I don't want to see, I would select a group to display from the drop-down icon (or even a Groups tool icon I could drag to the toolbar) and switch to that group. Ideally this would close the current group I have open, (save it), and switch to the group I just selected.

I think one odd behavior compared to edge is how the groups expand and contract. Everything kind of jiggles. The whole thing needs to be hard pinned left (or right if mirrored). There should t be any kind of effect on side car open/close/resize.

For me being able to share tab groups means pressing on a button to copy multiple links of all the websites present in the tab group, to share them. Same for selecting multiple tabs and pressing share tabs. That feature would help tab management a lot since I can feed it into an LLM to tell me which tabs are important and whicn ones I can close.

Thanks to all your feedback, we’re gearing up for our release of Tab Groups. Our progressive rollout begins next week and soon more users will be able to stay organized and manage their tab overload.

This groups’ contributions were instrumental to these these key areas:

Validating how important it is to reposition tab groups along the tab bar

Understanding the importance of signaling where to retrieve closed groups

Several insights and ideas that will be useful for future iterations of Tab Groups

As a reminder for What are Tab Groups?

Tab Groups will help you organize your tabs. Whether you keep your tab bar tidy with just a few tabs or you hoard thousands of tabs, Tab Groups will make it easier than ever to switch between and re-find tabs and tasks—all while maintaining the privacy of Firefox. Say you’re planning a vacation over spring break. A group will help you to keep all your flight searches, lodging options, local restaurants in one easy to re-find place.

In addition, Tab Groups can be named, color-coded, and are always saved. Create a new Tab Group with a few simple steps like dragging a tab onto another, pausing momentarily until the highlight appears, then dropping to create a group, or by right-clicking on any tab and selecting “Add tab to group.”

We hope this helps you stay productive and organized, getting more things done while you browse. Please keep the feedback coming!

Love it! WOULD BE NICE: 1. Wish I could have custom colours and or custom PNGs like favicons for each tab group! 2. Drag tab groups from Firefox Release to Firefox Nightly (I try and use Release for Work and Nightly for non work stuff)

Yeah alot of Chromium browsers does it alot better just look at my other Reponses and maybe you could make the feature to Vivaldi in the future but for now why not try to get to how Chrome/Edge does it.

First, I love that tab groups are persistent. However, I'd love to see a feature that will allow me to toggle between the groups auto-saving the last sites it was on vs the original set of sites.

i.e. if I add in Site A to Group, then from Site A, I click on links and such and eventually end up on Site G, Site G is what shows up the next time I open this group. I'd like the option to instead not "auto-update", but always open a persistent set of bookmarks or sites.

I have noticed a tab switching inconsistency. I have setup Ctrl+tab to swith between tabs in most recently used order.

If I have two tab groups in the same window. One tab group with two tabs and one tab group with > 2 tabs.
If the tab group with two tabs is expanded and the other tab group is collapsed, Ctrl+tab will only switch between the two tabs in the expanded group. If I, on the other hand, have the tab group with > 2 tabs expanded and the other tab group collapsed, Ctrl+tab will switch between all 5 tabs.

I would prefer that Ctrl+tab only switches between tabs in the expanded tab groups.

This is also inconsistent with what it look like in the "List all tabs" drop down where it is reflected what groups are collapsed and not. I.e., only tabs in expanded groups are visible.

1. I hope it'll be very easy to organize my existing tabs into groups. Ideally just one click or drag per tab. The old tab groups UI had this:

2. It'd be really nice to use AI to automatically group all my tabs, because I have a lot and don't even know what categories would be good.
