Youtube has been almost unusable on FF for at least five months now. The lag gets worse the longer you are on the site. Its like there is a ever-increasing delay for all input and most output. Closing Youtube's tab and reopening the site will sometimes fix it for a while, but usually you'll need to restart Firefox.

My circumstance on laptop, windows 10, FF 127 on YouTube videos; takes seconds/minutes to start, freezes during playback, play/pause button does toggle but circle still moves. And the ads go black or gray square until 'skip' appears.

In FF 126, still had hangs/lags but not as bad/unusable as FF 127. When I use "browser tools""web dev tools"/console and network I see all sorts of errors of declarations "dropped" and worse I'd guess the fine volunteer folks solely work on Windows 11. Could be related to 'ad blocker' internal (I have no add-ons).

More I could give, but not enough to submit it as an official bug. Like others, I loaded "edge" browser to watch the videos. Oh give me back FF 125.

Separately, When I open FF, there is so much disk activity, and IMO there should not be. One minute full?

YouTube is unusable in some videos, and totally fine in other.
It lags, skips, freezes and buffers so much in certain videos at certain points, that it makes that entire part of the video, up to 5 - 10 seconds, unwatchable.

YouTube has a "spamvelope" code that "watches" and does the forced spam thing, and makes sure they get their pay for wasting folks' time with spam. AND they are now grabbing the mouse cursor to make it harder to hit the skip button, which they move between two spots. Chrome does not, so someone along the way here is not compliant or has deliberately put in code that causes some kind of internal rehash. My bet is YouTube and Chrome just walks past it. But Firefox most definitely has been freezing now after watch a certain number of videos or some other "did they get the spam force" code segment looping. NEVER a problem on Chrome.

Odd that... killing Firefox and restarting does ALWAYS work to stop the halted video thing which I experience. But THAT is NOT what should be needed. I mean even opening a new tab or window and pasting the link in does not allow the video to start, so the only thing that works is a restart of FF itself and no one should find that acceptable. Especially if I have other tabs open, and I ALWAYS do.

Hey Mozilla Community,

YouTube lagging usually isn’t caused by the platform itself but by the browser, cached data, outdated versions, or heavy extensions running in the background. Clearing cache, updating the browser, or switching browsers often fixes the issue; otherwise, visiting websites or using lightweight streaming apps like Desi Cinema iOS can offer a smoother, buffer-free viewing experience as an alternative.

Best Regards!!
