Firefox is not MY computer, does not own or control MY computer. I am fed up to the back teeth with appn makers acting like they own me when I use their appn. I pay for the appn, I, ME, MYSELF, want control over how the **bleep**er works and not have it try and dictate to me. When I have a preferred home page, and Firefox updates itself, I DO NOT expect the appn to take away my preferences! Not on! There are a lot of other browser appns on the market, and quite frankly Firefox is NOT the obviously better one anymore. It's footprint on my hard drive is TOO large, its use of resources when it is running is far TOO large, I have to shut down almost all the 'helpful add-ons' because they are NOT helpful, ...and its disrespect of MY preferences is damned annoying. This is a pretty serious deal-breaker. Close to leaving. I have been here a couple times before, but always stayed because of familiarity alone, ...but if I do leave, I'll be building a relationship with the new appn and will NEVER return. A little more loyalty and respect from the appn maker for the payer/user/client.

I too echo this sentiment. I was going to post a separate topic but this one fits perfectly. Like the OP I'm becoming more and more disenchanted by Firefox as my primary web browser. I don't appreciate having updates installed unless I authorize them which is how my settings are set. Apparently many of user settings are bypassed and/or ignored these days. Equally i do NOT appreciate being nagged about updates either nearly every two weeks now. Firefox crashes entirely too often, especially on Facebook. I'm a nat's whisker from abandoning Firefox permanently. Count on me 'making noise' on social media to this effect. Keep this crap up and Firefox may well go the way of Netscape...

It is very annoying that is why I have disabled it in the firefox config. I recommend that option to everyone.

Here is how to do that:

Open Firefox: and navigate to about:config by typing it into the address bar and pressing Enter.

Accept the warning: by clicking the button that promises to be careful or accept the risk.

Search for the preference: In the search box above the list of preferences, type or paste app.update.auto.

Change the value: Click the "Toggle" button or double-click the entry to change its value from true to false.

Close the tab: or browser.
