Improve forum behavior for posted or edited comments

Currently a comment is hidden until it is approved. Annoying, but ok. But why hide the entire post if you've edited it? At least show the latest version until the new changes are approved by a moderator. I only changes one character. I'm not sure how long it takes to review. Seems to be very long.

Are all users moderated? I mean, do all comments have to be approved before they are visible? Or is this only for new users? Is there a score value or other indicator to set on user profile to be trusted? Or accept all comments and let users report posts that violate the rules. Less effort for you. A few bad apples shouldn't annoy the others.

This happened to me with an "Idea" I posted. I updated part of it that had some statistics and it became hidden until it could be reviewed. Annoying, but perhaps necessary given how much spam there is on the web??

Also, comments on Idea posts are moderated before they appear.

I don't think Discussion posts are pre-moderated.

I also don't seem to have my comments showing up (with one from way back in 2023 on a popular idea post "JPEG XL" is still awaiting approval.) Unsure if this will post. Maybe need to contact a mod.

Edit: This showed up! Neat. I guess it's just ideas or certain popular ones that are especially moderated.

It would be better if edited posts showed the latest version while waiting for approval, instead of hiding everything, and maybe implementing a reputation system could help speed up the process for trusted users while keeping moderation efficient.

Yep, new and edited comments on ideas are moderated. And until they're not moderated they won't show. I've got two inoffensive comment edits still waiting for moderation after almost one year.

And there is no way to "ping" moderators in case they forgot unless you open a discussion. You can read on this link that moderators were implementing a policy to allow experienced users to bypass moderation. That was almost four years ago...
