It doesnt work either... maybe its something related to the keyboard app? There's no dropdown on top, only shift left, left, left.. to the infinity. I thought it was something the browser implemented.

️Hello Firefox Community!

We've been listening closely to your feedback here on Connect, and we understand that the recent updates to the toolbar and menu on Firefox for Mobile (iOS & Android) have sparked discussions about wanting easy access to the features you use the most. Your experience with our app is our top priority, and together, we want to make it truly fit your needs.

The new menu and toolbar experience is just the beginning! We envision it as a first step toward giving you more control, and customization is our next priority. We’re excited to make these features more flexible, so you can better tailor your experience.

Here’s how you can help shape the future:
Tell us what you need! Share your thoughts on what works best for you:

What features would you love to access faster right from the toolbar on Firefox mobile? How would faster access to these features help you? Examples are helpful to hear!

How would you like to customize the toolbar and menu on Firefox mobile? How would these customizations help you in the browser? Again, examples help us make the most of your feedback!

While we may not be able to tackle every request, we’re committed to building an experience that makes as many of you as possible feel right at home in Firefox for mobile. Your insights are essential to making that happen, and we can’t wait to hear your ideas!

Let’s build something amazing together!

Glad the team started focusing more on mobile too.

The new toolbar has only one fuctionality that is useful for me that is the new tab(+). So the " + " button is added to the current toolbar we get better functionality without loosing any screen space.

Also having an abilty to choose from different options, like choosing bookmark button in the place of home button or any other would be a great addition too.

Hi, I would like to share some suggestions on how the menu might look better.

1. Change the menu to a card shape.
Similar to how you design tabs. The reason for this is that I don't think a floating window, like a context menu, aligns with the design language of mobile devices. Since mobile screens are vertically oriented, interaction elements are more commonly placed at the top, middle, or bottom of the screen rather than in asymmetrical positions.

In Firefox for PC, or at least the Linux version I use, the 'context menu' design works well because the floating card design appears directly beneath the button we press with the cursor. A good example is the download menu in the PC version, which I’ve attached below.

My consideration for adopting this design is that many mobile applications, such as Discord and Obsidian, use it effectively. It makes the interface intuitive and less distracting.

2. Customize the old design with adjustments.
Another option is to refine the existing design with minor changes. For instance, the context menu-like cards could stack above the pressed button (or below if the address bar is at the top). The reason is that, in the current version, pressing the menu button causes the floating window to cover the button and the address bar, almost like placing a piece of paper directly under our fingertip.

This behavior is only useful when operating with one hand and navigating options by swiping, similar to selecting accented letters on a mobile keyboard.

I suggest this layout works better for menus with fewer options. To enhance the visuals, a background color could be added to indicate that the button is being pressed.

1. Bring the UI customizability on PC Firefox (customizable toolbar buttons and homepage) to mobile platform.

2. Dedicated UI layout for large-screen devices like foldable phones and tablets. The UI we now have on tablets is just a stretched version of that on mobile phones, which wastes so much horizontal space. Adding a tab strip is a good start, but I'd like to see more improvements. To be honest, I don't even think there would be a problem if the UI layout on PC is applied on tablets.

Moreover, if you make any changes to the UI design, please don't make them fixed; instead, make them optional/reversible, so that users who like or dislike them can all get what they want.

new tab button and share are the most useful for me. if we had full customization, I would consider adding the send to device button as well. for bigger purchases and more long form articles, I prefer desktop so it would be nice having quick access to that

Add buttons in the toolbar or provide options to select from

Go Home - I may want to launch another site from quick launch. I would like to place it at a comfortable position in the toolbar for one had use

Close current tab - don't need it anymore. Long press tab button in current iteration is slow

Close all tabs - opened a bunch of them , don't need them anymore. Current method is to go to tab list and then choose from menu. This is cumbersome

Bookmarks - ease of access with switching to another website

Access a certain extension - some extensions may need to be tinkered, for example dark reader may need to be turned off

Turn on/off private mode - ease of switching on/off private mode will encourage it's use

I want firefox to fix the new toolbar design and menu redesign..

New toolbar: need customisation of the buttons shown like opera, some buttons are simply redundant like back button as I am using Android gesture, so instead of that I could use some other button.

Menu redesign: the new menu is crap, it seems developer has freely used the spaces and added sub menus , please remember we have a small screen device and hence it will be productive if you introduced single page design only..victoria song proposed a better 3 dot menu before she left, maybe you can reuse it.

Toolbar and Firefox color: like other browser we need the toolbar and menus to change color based on site color or user selected static themes

Hi and thanks a lot!

For me, adding elements in a (transparent) bar at the bottom and top of the screen would be great.

Personally, I would have a bar at the bottom with the elements: back, forward, address, add bookmark, and new tab. At the top right of the screen I would place the menu button, perhaps also show bookmarks.

So it would be nice to have "left-aligned", "center" and "right aligned" areas within the bar spaces. (The address line should use all available space.)

If there were more gestures, I wouldn't need so many UI elements other than address, new tab, and menu. Then I would place them all within the bottom bar space.

Maybe I'll need other features more often in the future. Therefore it would be great if all Firefox menu items could be added to the bar spaces.

I would also like to customize the appearance of the bar behind the elements. Ideally, I could make it semi-transparent black, fully transparent, opaque, or blur the content behind it. (I'm not sure what would work best for me yet though).

This customization would make the usability quicker and more ergonomic for me, and show me much of the website.

just stop changing things, all the recent ones caused issues and regressions

fix bugs and develop the engine and we'll be fine

the tablet tab bar isn't any useful on tablets, the second navbar row isn't any useful on phones (and glitches PWA), the "fixes" in text scaling doesn't seem to fix anything but cause issues with text smaller than 100% (one of main reasons I'm using Fenix, second one being uBO and the third one was just lost today)

Honestly, I don't understand how you can say that you want to bring control to the users while forcing a UI change like this. If you are honest about trying to make users more in control of the UI, here is my simple wishlist:

1. Allow full customisation of available buttons in the address bar. The rest of the buttons will be available in the three-dot menu. Allow users to add more rows to the toolbars as needed to accommodate all buttons they want quick access to. For my part, all I want is the address bar, tab button and three-dot settings, all other buttons are so rarely used I'm happy with them in the menu.

2. To make it super customisable and really bring power to the users, you could allow creation of user-defined buttons. These can be a shortcut for actions that normally is hidden in the menu, e.g. toggling a setting in an extension. For example, I'm using an extension which convert black-on-white text to white-on-black text. This is super useful (for me) when reading in the dark in the middle of the night (it allows me to customise the colours), but it is a few clicks away to enable and disable. Instead of trying to find a UI design that fits all, make it customisable so everyone can tweak it so it matches them.

3. Allow for more customisation in the settings menu without having to go into about:config. I don't understand the need to make the settings dumber to make it look more clean. If you really see this as a major point, please add an "Advanced settings" button in settings where you can hide settings you don't feel deserve the full exposure, but is a step too far to only reach through about:config. (A good example to expose in an advanced setting would be the "ask before open link" functionality. Some pages can otherwise push you everywhere at the click on the wrong section, getting the popup allows for a pause and validation of the url trying to open.)

4. Make the browser more accessible with external (i.e. Bluetooth) devices. I'm using a Bluetooth mouse with my phone every day, but I still can't scroll to view the entire page since the address bar (and now maybe toolbar) don't hide when scrolling using the mouse wheel. Just allow left-click on the mouse to behave just as the finger on the touchscreen, with the addition of scroll wheel or similar for scrolling.

I use Firefox Beta as my primary web browser on Android, and I strongly, strongly dislike the new toolbar layout. Space is very limited on a small phone screen—I don't want more screen space wasted by have two toolbars, one on top and one on bottom. It looks bad, it's clunky and unintuitive to use, and it takes up way more of the screen than it needs to.

When/if rolling out this new design to the main Firefox build, please, please, please add an option to return to the previous layout, having both the address bar and the tabs/settings menu combined into one single toolbar, either on the top or the bottom.

Answering quickly to the questions.

Reader view, button to switch between desktop and mobile versions (mostly on tablet), bookmark button as I use it often.

Option to select which buttons are on which toolbar. For example I don't need the share button to be visible as I use the feature maybe once per month or even less. Bookmark button would be more useful for me. Cudtomizing orientation and location of the buttons and other features would be useful especially on a tablet or other device with a large screen.

I like the new tab button.

So far, I'm loving the changes to the toolbar that has become available in 133.0.3! Finally, the useless home button is ditched, and new functionality is introduced!

If I may, I'd like to suggest the following:

Allow option to customize buttons available on the two rows – so for those who prefer the share+reload buttons on the address bar as-is, then let them. If people want the "star" (bookmark) there, let them (so it's similar to the desktop experience). Want to remove the back/forward on the second row because there's already the native Android "back" navigation? Then let them.

Provide an even easier way to close the current tab. Currently, it's either the tab list is tapped and then a tab is swiped away to close, or long-tap on the tab list and then tap "close tab". Maybe providing a "close tab" button so one-tap functionality is available?

Well for one if you really have to change my interface in an update, I need an announcement on app-boot introducing it, and showing me how I can customize it back to what it was.

I am very unhappy to open my firefox and have a large toolbar at the bottom where it doesn't belong, and of the 5 features, only one of them is a new button. The menu button and tabs button fit just fine on the address bar. I don't want a search button; the address bar does that. I don't need a back button; my android back button does that. The only new button is the forward button, and I really don't use that enough that it needed to be brought out of the sub menu.

But what I really, really don't need is extra vertical space being taken away from me, especially when I can't move it away from the bottom where it especially doesn't belong.

Merge the toolbar back into the address bar and make the buttons customizable. That would actually make me very happy.

Edit: I guess the interface is slightly different on a real web page than on the home page. I still would much prefer the forward, backward, refresh, and share buttons in a sub menu like it was than in a new obtrusive toolbar I can't remove from the bottom of my screen

Thank you for asking. First of all I don't like new design: neither of toolbars, nor of menu. I will try to describe why.

Let's start with a menu. The absolutely main function I use in browser is bookmarks. In old menu I need two taps to create/edit a bookmark or to enter Bookmarks folder. In new menu I need three taps to create/edit a bookmark or two taps and one swipe to enter Bookmarks folder. You literally made this less convenient for me. I guess you tried to made menu more structured instead of being just a long list of everything and you considere bookmarks kind of obsolete... But I don't need page translation, creating a PDF or printing the page, I'd prefer to hide all them deeper in menu and to leave in this list only something I use.

What about new toolbars. As I already said once, new additional bar doesn't give me anything I need or I didn't have. I already have Android gesture "<" instead of Left Arrow and Right Arrow (long tap on "<"). And I have already had Home button to open a new tab so I don't need Plus button. I normally don't refresh pages but when I need it (super rare) I can use a Pull To Refresh or just do two taps to reach out to this button in menu. I don't need Share button - I prefer long tap an address bar to copy a URL (usully I do this to paste it in the middle of some text, not just to send only it to someone, or at least after editing it (deleting some tracks for example)). I don't need that wide address bar to see extra 10-15 abracadabra characters of the URL. So I simply get less vertical space without any benefits.

But okay, other people may like it and need these functions - so what I can propose. You can make new toolbars more customizable. For example in Menu –> Settings -> Customize. So I go there and there are options "Add new top toolbar" and "Add new bottom toolbar", so I can have for example up to 4 bars. Every new bar gets 5-10 empty slots which I can fill on my own. So I can add there Create/Edit Bookmark button, Bookmarks Folder button, History button, any extension button, Translate, Left Arrow, Right Arrow, Refresh or whatever I want. Or I can use all the toolbar space for a wide address bar. After all, if I can reach out to all of these things in one click in Desktop Firefox, why cannot I in mobile? This is what I call customization.

On Firefox Android Beta- I hate the new bottom tab/navigation option bar because if my keypad is open it means I have to close the keypad to move to another tab.

I also hate the change to bookmarking because it makes it significantly more difficult to create bookmarks.

I don't think the new changes made Firefox on Android better. My hand doesn't flex like that.

This is the kind of UI change that would make me switch off of Firefox if there isn't an option to revert it.

This combined android menu and toolbar experiment is awful.

Firstly, as others have said, it's a counterintuitive waste of space and division of functionality between two areas of screen estate.

Secondly it was imposed without notice.

Thirdly it was imposed without a clear mechanism for rolling it back. I found one in the end, but it was not clear, and I cannot impress upon you enough that, had I not found it in a few further minutes, I would simply have found another browser. As a Firefox user of twenty years, and a user of Firefox on android since it's beta release, I hope this impresses upon you how bad it is.

Fourthly it was sufficiently bad that I made this account to provide feedback for the first time ever.

This is just bad. If you're going to push this out to main then please please have an obvious option, at first launch, to turn this nonsense off.

While I use Android gesture for page back, there is no such gesture for page forward functionality. Since nav bar support gestures to switch between pages, it would be great to have page back/forward as a gesture on second toolbar. As an alternative, page forward button on one of the bars would still be welcome.

Position of both toolbars should be customizable. Moreover, second toolbar should be optional since many people won't need it.

I believe the toolbars should have similar level of flexibility to that of a desktop version, with ability to freely place icons. It is important as people's needs and preferences change over time. For example, until about a month ago I had no need to access any extensions very often, so hiding them in submenu was fine. But now I'm often using Obsidian Web Clipper to save recipes and thus placing it directly on a bar would be a great enhancement for me.

I would also like to hide reader mode and translation in the menu – I seldom use them and they take precious space. I'd probably add bookmarks and search on website instead.

And one more thing, home page button acts like a new page button. I'd like to see it fixed, as it's not the expected behaviour coming from desktop.

Single toolbar user here, currently on Android Nightly with the address at the bottom.

Looking at a page that can be translated or opened in reader view, with the home button on the left, the tabs and menu buttons on right, plus the lock icon and padding all around, I have a grand total of... five characters of URL visible. Six, if I'm being generous—the last one's kinda faded. P.S. After updating, I get 10!

I'd like if I could remove things I don't use, and make it easier to access ones I do. So, another vote for customization (specifically, being able to pick which buttons sit on the toolbar). Disregarding implementation feasibility, here are examples of things I'd like:

Ability to clear space.

Remove home button.

Remove translate button on the URL. I don't mind opening the tools menu to access it (infrequent).

Reduce left and right margins padding. Probably a bad way to go about this, though.

Ability to put things I use often on the toolbar.

Button to open the extensions menu (or maybe any desirable submenu?).

Extensions' buttons themselves (e.g. put the uBlock button on the toolbar).

A quick, simple "+" button to open a new tab.

It's a neat idea on the redesigned 2-bars toolbar, but I don't want 2 bars.

Finally, I think Firefox underutilizes swipe gestures. This is wildly out of scope, but it bears mentioning.

How about swiping up on the toolbar to open the tabs view?

How about swiping right on the toolbar while in the last tab to open a new one?

How about swiping left/right on the page itself to go backwards/forwards in history?

Possibly limited to pages without horizontal scroll.

If I had the swipe to open tabs view, I'd even be willing to ditch the tabs button for more space on the toolbar. What would I do with that space? I don't know, whatever I wanted. Maybe nothing, maybe I just want to be able to read the URL better.

I'm not really a fan of the current state. Back and search button feels redundant (back is already covered by Android's back button/gesture, address bar works as search). At least allow users to customise what buttons are on the toolbar. Personally I would prefer a dedicated bookmark button as the current method is a few too many taps for me. Previous version of Firefox for Android accessed the bookmarks straight away when tapping the address bar.

However overall I'm not a fan of the extra vertical space used. I would prefer if it there was an option to allow users to not use the extra toolbar at all and hide it.

Sorry - late to the game!

I would love to see extension syncing (with settings where possible) between desktop and mobile firefox, only where the extensions are available on both platforms.

For example, if I use uBlock Origin on both devices, I would like to be able to install it on one device, and have it sync over to my other device. Additonally, it would great to have a choice of which extensions to sync.

Then, we could potentially choose if we want to export settings for one or many of the extensions.

All I need is single line toolbar fixed at the bottom (not hiding) with address bar and menu button. Like current Firefox Focus but on the bottom. You devs can do whatever you like with the UI but let me revert it back to that basic state and I'll be happy.

In my case I have to manually change month by month (i cannot change the year directly), so its unfeasible to type very old birthdays.... i need to use other browsers just for that!

I'm a huge fan of the new toolbar! it's the only reason I'm using Firefox Nightly on Android as my main browser while waiting for it to trickle down to the more stable flavours. I've just seen the toolbar appear on my Firefox Beta install (134.0b10) that I periodically check for that very feature, but once I started setting everything up to finally move to i,t the toolbar diseappeared at some point, and the revamped menu went back to the old look, as well. is there any way to force show the toolbar in Beta at the moment?

edit: Settings > About Firefox Beta > Tap the logo 7 times > back to Settings > Nimbus Experiments > toggle the "Android default toolbar placement - Treatment A Rollout" experiment.

Firstly wish to say a big thanks for Firefox for mobile which i have utilised for eva. A glitch or two occasionally is expected.

But just to say here, for mobile users, in case anyone else does NOT like the.... New bookmark saved to last folder saved in... And having to very very quickly click Edit to change which folder the bookmark IS saved to.... Or doesn't like if u miss that fast Edit option, trying to remember where it went, to edit to relevant folder.... A breath.... Took me ages to get to this point, with zero search help. 99 of 100 links are Mozilla PC. Ok, yes, I could join a Firefox for mobile forum. But wotevs.

Go to settings, Homepage. You should see Bookmarks listed. Whichever recent update did it, you'll find that toggled off. Toggle on. And go back to you choosing if a new bookmark goes to the list below all folders, or the create a name & choose folder to save to. I get the "faster convenience" addiction & how useful in certain workplaces or business, but no, far too much "faster convenience" , not dissing Firefox, Mozilla, just overall, is usually a crock of inconvenience. Fixes for what ain't broken for an extra bauble, adding more steps aint convenient. Still ♥️ u Mozilla Firefox.

I strongly dislike the new toolbar in Android. I think the study was classified as group B, however enabling the switch to A, they both have a lot of the same problems. They take up entirely too much vertical space while browsing, for incredibly little benefit. I do not need dedicated forward / back buttons on a mobile browser at all times. Who does?

I think the ultimate goal is to let the user decide the layout of the toolbar. For example, let users choose compact or functional layout, and let expert users choose how many rows and which buttons to display on the toolbar.

For me, on the old Android layout, I usually use Bookmarks and sometimes History. The Home is just a duplicate of the New Tab (at least that’s how it feels to me). The URL box wastes space because I only care about the domain name, and the entire path means nothing to me, and probably to the average user as well. In fact, I usually don’t have enough space on my phone to display the entire domain name. The lock icon only displays if there are security issues, freeing up more space.

I don't feel right without the full address, or when search occasionally decides it should show the query instead of the address of search results

I'd love to remove the reader view button, I never used it intentionally, and likewise the home button

tabs probably could be hidden as I rarely access the switcher, but would need to experiment

I think it would be great to be able to fully customize each part since every user has their own usage habits, especially on a mobile screen where space is limited.

I'd love to see it work more like Samsung Internet, which I think is surprisingly far ahead of every other mobile browser in many ways. You should be able to decide which and how many buttons you have on the bar. On mine, I have forward, new tab, search in page, AI summarize/translate, private browsing switch, all tabs, and menu (refresh, bookmark, and reading mode are on the address bar itself). A robust desktop-like tablet layout is another thing to look at them for inspiration.

If you go to "chrome://geckoview/content/config.xhtml" (make sure "chrome://" is there because even when copy-pasting FF likes to remove that part), then change "general.aboutConfig.enable" to "true", that should enable "about:config".

I would like it if it were possible to disable these UI elements.

I don't use them, I'd rather have more room to see the URL. Maybe an option to adjust the padding between elements would be nice aswell, I would rather have a very low padding so I could see more of the URL bar.

I rarely need anything in the 3 dots menu, as the back gesture on my phone does the work of the back arrow in the 3 dots menu, so it would be less convenient for me to have anything else than the URL bar, tab switcher, and the 3 dots menu being on my screen at all times.

When you changed the UI to add that home button it was something I hated, I don't use it whatsoever and there is no option to disable it.

Another thing I would like is the ability to reposition the objects, for example moving just the tab switcher or 3 dots menu to the left side of the URL bar, or both at the same time.

Edit: I also don't need a dedicated refresh button as I use the pull down to refresh option.

I'd love the ability to change the home button to whatever I want. I never use the home button, especially since "new tab" does literally the exact same thing (and doesn't even actually open a new tab until you visit a webpage).

What I'd love is for the user to have the option to change it to anything they want. Do you share pages frequently? Plop the share button there and avoid having to open the tridot menu. Pull to refresh not your thing? Slap the refresh button there and call it a day. Need quicker access to frequently used extensions? That extension button sure would look nice there.

I'd wager that very few users actually use the home button frequently enough to dedicate a permanent space for it in the address bar, but removing it entirely is also not the vibe. Having the ability to swap it out with anything that gets frequently used would be wonderful.

(I'd also love for every instance of "share" to also allow sending to other devices, as currently only the share button in the tridot menu allows this functionality. Long press on a link + share link does not offer this as an option, and I don't always necessarily want to open a link and then send it to another device.)

Yesss, yesss, yesss! Items 1 and 3 please! I'd even be willing to pay for number one, that is how desperate I am to get rid of that useless Home button.

I have low vision/depth perception and I frequently hit that button accidentally when I want to hit the back button on a website. Why this didn't come up in UX tests is beyond me, I'm sure I'm not the only one having this problem. Maybe there's not much inclusivity for disabled people in those tests.

Apart from that, the button wastes valuable horizontal screen estate that would better be used for the address bar.

Before Mozilla acquired NETSCAPE, for me it was near perfect. Customizable, easy to use. Out of curiosity, I reread the original post.

I'm sorry if any of this has been covered exhaustively before, the thread is long. So is my comment, it's not my fault, it just turned out that way... (｡•̀ᴗ-)✧

1. Has anyone mentioned that the new tab page kinda... sucks? Like the idea is sound and I use it a lot but it's often unreliable -- sometimes just failing to load my top pages or my bookmarks or, occasionally, both (like this):

-- and there's no way to reorder it so the sites I visit most (the ones I have pinned) are at the bottom where my thumb can reach them.

2. It hasn't affected me but, assuming the change hasn't been rolled back, I think you do your new users a disservice by defaulting the address bar to the top. Most people have what we might call "an ordinary human hand", which means the top of the screen and especially the top left are an inhumane place to put critical UI.

3. Bookmark management in mobile Firefox has been subpar for at least 13 years, probably longer. We cannot reorder them or sort them or even move multiple at once. We can't even get alphabetical order? I can do that in one line of `jq`, what's the excuse here?

3a. Bookmark edit UI is top-oriented and bad.

3b. What is actually the point of collections? They seem like bookmarks but worse. They're not like saved pages in opera that are cached locally and load instantly, so I really can't figure out why I'd ever use them. ┐(´ー｀)┌

4. The story for using extensions that aren't purely passive (Textarea Cache, for example, and sometimes Dark Reader too) is a bit rough. I'd very much like to get rid of the home button (which I have literally never used once) in favour of easy access to an extension or two of my choice.

4a. The forward button, too, belongs on the main bar. It's easy to accidentally go back because android forgot that physical buttons are cool, but going forward forces me to hit the vertical ellipsis every single time.

5. I would like some better method of editing the address line. This is a bit of a tough UX knot, but... so we all agree web addresses can get inhumanely long, right? Well, tapping the address box puts the insertion point at the end so when I want to change just a small part that isn't near the end or truncate a whole bunch of extra stuff added by rewrite rules and facets, I have to either pick that tiny finicky handle up and sll l l l o o o o w l y y y... drag it to the start or swap to text editing mode in my keyboard so I can jump to the start and move that way. Or just copy it into a separate notepad-- that's somehow the best way to deal with this right now. And I'm probably the so-called "power user"; most people are going to do the first thing or give up and that's pretty crappy.

appendix a. This edit box is so tiny on mobile, it only shows four lines! Why can I not extend it? Why is it so small to begin with?

First task: fix this so that it works. The latest release on iOS has made it unusuable. Clicking a link on a page takes 10-15 seconds to respond. Memory management is horrendous. Stop worrying about new features, and write a browser that ACTUALLY WORKS.

I'm sorry, but... guys, are you kidding me? With the latest update 148.0 the cursed Home Button is gone (finally, good) but now there's a new button showing "tracking protection" which, while better than the Home Button is of little use. But what's more severe is: there's a now a Plus button to open a new tab. Next to the tabs overview button and the settings menu. Seriously? How did this pass any UX test? Who voted for this? If you keep going like that, the address bar will be reduced to one character: You watch your videos on y, share your photos on i and write useless tweets at... wait, that's the only url that will actually correctly show you where you are.

But all sarcasm aside: why don't you make these elements configurable and if not fully (like choosing the elements and dragging) then please, at least give the possibility to get rid of stuff, i.e. an option to remove the tracking protection indicator and the Plus button. If there already is then it is well hidden.

This new tab button can be configured in settings > customize > toolbar shortcut, if that's of any help. I know that can't get rid of the button, but at least you can choose what you'd like it to do instead 🙂

I absolutely agree on the need for users to be able to configure our menu/toolbar settings to our specific usage. Create a separate customization section if you must, but let us CHOOSE how our experience works.

Firefox, listen to users about massive UI changes. Because this current update is driving us nuts.

I reported this "new update" as a BUG because of how utterly awful it feels with no way to fix it, and was directed to this post from 2024(?!?!?) to "provide feedback", so here I am, providing "feedback":

The UI is absolutely AWFUL. Hate it, and hate being told that anyone decided to prioritize what they call a "sleek" appearance over functionality. What once was a tight, functional, easy-to-understand and easy-to-use-one-handed list of options like one would expect from a mobile browser, is now an awful cluster of buttons that springs up from the bottom without even the option of removing the ones that we have no use for (or better yet, an option to turn the menu back to a list view like before).

There's also that weird little gray line at the very top of it. When I saw it, I assumed that if I held my finger down on it I'd be able to at least drag the menu to the right side of the screen where it belongs (even if I'd still be stuck with the clunky button-cluster instead of a list view), but holding my finger on it literally did nothing? What's even the purpose of it?

All-around bad decisions were made here, and now that I know this mistake isn't a mistake in Mozilla's eyes, this marks a SECOND time this year I'm looking for a new mobile browser to switch to because the one I was using suddenly became mobile-user-unfriendly. Bummer. 😕

SubmariNervous!!!

i have found a workaround for this android menu nonsense that puts it back to the old style! tooling around the forums, a couple users had the ideas for these.

PLEASE NOTE that so far, the CREATION of bookmarks (editing function) still requires all those extension carats and i haven't seen anything for reverting yet.

from emjaykay: TOOLBAR

this requires the Secret Menu of FF Android, which you can toggle to 'always on' once you activate it.

1) settings > about Firefox > tap the Firefox logo 5 times. this opens the debug menu back in settings

2) settings > about section > Secret Settings menu

3) toggle OFF:

Enable Composable Toolbar.

This gradient that needlessly hides too much of the URL. I can kind of understand why it's on the right, but why is the left side of the URL also hidden? The effect starts way to far away from the buttons. Does there need to be so much padding between the button and the start of the gradient? In addition, the gradient is also very long. For a central element in a browser on a screen that doesn't have much horizontal space, taking that away by having a long gradient does not seem like the best use of the limited space available.

A really great change is the removal of the weird house button, I only ever accidentally pressed. Instead, there's now a configurable button, which is really good. I'm just missing two options: Forward and None.

Forward should be straight forward. There already is a unified way to go back on Android, which I constantly make use of to go back. So a button that does the opposite would be another great addition. It would be perfect if the tap and hold functionality wasn't disabled when the button is greyed out. Tapping and holding either back or forward brings up the history for this tab, which is very useful. But with only one of these buttons available on the toolbar, sometimes this feature is inaccessible.

And None gives people the freedom to exchange a button they wouldn't use for more space for the URL and less clutter.

The menu. The redesign is fine, after people mentioned that when using the bottom toolbar, the most interacted with elements should also be put on the bottom. Going one step further and letting the user arrange buttons freely would greatly enhance Firefox' usability. Removing clutter you never use, bringing the most commonly used options closer to your thumb... These are decisions no UI/UX team will ever be able to perfectly make and cater to everyone, since every user is different and prioritizes different features.

A short while ago, I made a mockup of how I would customize my menu, if I could:

Not having to reach around buttons you never use and being able to quickly accessing the ones you do would catapult Firefox' usability and accessibility to great heights.

Just beware, make sure your automatic updates in the play store/ wherever you download apps on Mobile is TURNED OFF in the settings.

Apparently update 149 is completely getting rid of these secret settings fixes 🙄

One can hope.

Beware that your auto updates for apps on your phone are TURNED OFF. Apparently update 149 is messing with the secret fixes to not even revert the UI changes. From what I've seen on reddit threads.

Just give me the option to permanently revert to the old UI. That's all I want.

It wasn't broke, so you shouldn't try to "fix" it.

The new menu on firefox mobile is badly thought out and appears to not be tested for practical usability before being rolled out:

1. Im mostly using firefox/my phone 2 handed. holding it in the left and navigating with the right pointer finger. For this, the new layout is completely unusable.

My url bar is at the top, the menu button is in the top right, but the menu opens from the bottom, with things like 'reload' or 'back' being placed at a position that is notably far way from the current position of my 'control' finger. That is a VERY counterintuitive design, as these are the most-used buttons in the menu. So everytime i want to quickly reload (or stop a page from loading), i have to open the menu and then move my hand to the other side of the screen? Unnatural and unnecessary flow of movement. And it betrays established user expectations. Menus have ALWAYS been opened from the button/ui element that triggered them, regardless of platform or os. This holds true for any and all other android apps i'm using. Changing this is an unintuitive mental break of operation flow.

2. I'm a heavy user of addons like noscript. The sheer amount of additional taps and navigation needed to open addon configs now is intolerable.

As it stands right now, i've locked my installation to the last version that still allows falling back to the old menu. If the new menu remains as it is... well, then i'll be yet another long-term firefox user jumping ship.

It is true. I wish I had read that earlier. Am I now stuck with the new menu style? Also, why is the Play button no more shown on tabs that (can) play media? Is it a coincidence?

Exactly! The NoScript workflow is being complicated for no obvious benefit.

Please remove the bookmark count. It is of no use and cuts out half the screen ! It makes seaching bookmarks more difficult.
