Gibberish messages in Nebula 128.0.1esr (64-bit)

Thunderbird updated itself to Nebula 128.1esr, and immediately most of my messages are arriving in gibberish, for example,

I've been using Thunderbird for nearly a year without problems. Can anyone suggest solutions???

If I look at the messages on my browser using gmail they are completely different, and I have to keep doing this to see what people have written. Still, I would prefer to use Thunderbird if possible.
