Firefox 131.0.3 (64-bit)

My mode is set to:

   Cookies and Site Data
Your stored cookies, site data, and cache are currently using X bytes of disk space. Learn more
Based on your history settings, Firefox deletes cookies and site data from your session when you close the browser.
Delete cookies and site data when you close the browser.

When I close all open Firefox browsers and then open a new browser, the number of bytes, X above, ranges from about 2kb to 4.0mkb. From the quote above I assumed that the default behavior was to delete all cached data. How can I ensure that this is done?

I have been having the same problem. I unset it and reset it and have the same problem. Sometimes after long sessions the cache has been as high as 42mb. If I forget and don't manually run an "empty" cache, my browser will slow to a crawl and if many tabs are open simultaneously the browser begins to freeze. A shut-down of my computer is often necessary and I loose all my on-going work and I have to start again from the beginning of my work and pray that I am able to finish. I am seriously looking for an alternative browser. Does anyone have an answer?
