Hello, i hope in Thunderbird 115 or later the adressbook gets the feature for categories.

The last TB Version is 91 where it works with an Add-On.
I have 5000 contacts in Thunderbird and i hope one the devs read this and implement it in the adressbook.

If there is anywhere a another place for writing improvements, please reply here.
Thanks, Stefan

I agree to Stefan-Franz. I love to use the categorisation of addresses. This is well integrated in CardBook, also to use in the email section. For me, this is the only reason why I use CardBook. Why has the categorisation of addresses not yet been implemented in the standard address book? That's really strange. This is a key feature of every address management programme.

Can anyone here confirm, that i'm right here to beg the devs to implemente Categories or do i have to use any other plattform to suggest improvements?

I also agree to Stefan-Franz suggestion.

The vCard spezification (rfc6350 from August 2011) contains the element "category", which can contains comma separated values. While element category is part of the vCard spezification, it should be automatically synced via CalDAV server & clients.

And regarding to my suggestion "Thunderbird contacts - Adding/managing personalized views to address books" it's also possible to filter contacts by the field category or to list all contacts with the "group by" function.

Thunderbird is becoming more and more a necessity these days, but without a capable address book app, it's not really suited for serious office work. Cardbook is a great extension with all the necessary features. Sadly, there is only one developer working on it, and he struggles to keep it compatible with the latest TB versions, updates frequently break something, and the UI would also need some attention.

This should really be a core feature to me (it is supported out of the box by many Android contact apps, for example), and I don't like the idea of relying on external addons for something like this.
