The new, modern user interface design of Thunderbird is groundbreaking and a great inspiration for many developers. There are still these weird programs with a floppy disk icon for saving. Maybe the functionality can be great but nobody knows what is behind these ugly designs.

I am a media designer and know what conceptual work is behind it. Please continue to focus on email, calendar, contacts, notes, tasks and so on and work on a clean synchronization. It will be great!

Thank you very much!

Sincerly,
D.

What to you use instead? I'm aware of a few programs that use an internal view of a mechanical hard disk, something few people of any age will ever have seen. As SSD would just be a rectangle or a PCB so also meaningless. Even if people don't know a 3½" floppy from a pork sandwich they'll know it as the near-universal icon meaning "Save."

What about the Home icon on Firefox? Not everybody's home is a house and not all houses have pitched rooves.

These days Thunderbird looks emetic without a dose of custom CSS.
