Using older versions

Why am I barred from using an older version of FireFox? My computer is not new, and the latest version of FireFox is just too much for it. It is my computer, so I should be able to use the version of FireFox that I want, not what somebody else with lots of money says I should use. What gives?

Nobody is barred from running an older version. However, for security reasons, Firefox will try to update itself as long as your system is compatible with the current release.

Latest Firefox runs fine on a twenty year old Pentium 4 I've got. All my other computers are at least ten years old and have no problem either.

It's a simple matter to install any version you wish to. Stopping it auto up-dating is chief thing.

As for the security implications of not using the latest version it's your computer and ultimately your data, your identity and your money so, as you say, your choice.

Firstly you need to find where the actual Firefox binary (program) is. On Windows this will usually be C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox. On Linux it can be pretty much anywhere so in Firefox press Alt-H and the choose "More Troubleshooting Information" from the drop-down menu that appears. In the first block of information is a line starting with "Application Binary" with the path next to it.

Get into that directory and make a directory called distribution. In that create a text file called policies.json containing this:—
