I have the same problem. I would like the address bar to be an address bar by default and not a search bar! I'm developing URLs and I'd like to be able to do CUT/PASTE without being in the search engine!

Why is the address bar on Firefox Android becoming a search bar? I don't need to see search history and there is no way to turn it off with this fancy new search thing you just added.

I want to set the default to browsing history. It's an address bar, not a search bar and a search engine should not be a default.

I concur, absolutely! Search is search, and direct address is direct address. At least by default. Who figured that putting in a direct URL will result in a search for such a thing? It is absolutely annoying!

If I make a pointer to the URL as an icon on my desktop, I can avoid the extra steps & aggravation of searching for something I already know the URL for the specific site that I want. But why should I have to make desktop icons for each?

Even switching to a different search engine doesn't help, because this is a Firefox 'thang'. I don't suppose that this change was run through a pool of Guinean pigs who all thought this was just the coolest new feature? I think not. 😞
