sometimes it recovers when I wait 5 - 10 minutes but usually I am not patient enough to wait, so I force restart using Process Explorer, as closing Firefox directly through its UI is blocked out.

Me too. FireFox freezes randomly when I try to "save image as". In fact almost every save attempt through FireFox results in the same freeze requiring the Taskmanager to close the program! Doug@awiz.com

Hi, Doug51. It hasn't happened lately and I'm wondering if it wasn't fixed in an update. Make sure your Firefox is up to date.

Thanks for the reply. I'm running the latest FireFox 101.0.1 (64-bit) on Windows 11 64 GB memory with the latest weekly update. All of my other browsers work just fine. I have installed Microsoft Edge, Opera, Brave and FireFox. FireFox is the default. I keep hoping the developers will fix this issue in the next update but it hasn't happened yet. I've been dealing with this issue for a long time. A couple of years ago I had to move away from Mozilla Thunderbird because, after 15 years of perfect stability, it suddenly kept crashing. I really liked it but I no choice. This bug is very annoying. I want to keep FireFox because I like the left Bookmarks bar and no one else has one that works as well.

Yep, crashing when trying to save an image (.jpg, .gif, etc.) is an ongoing problem. Doesn't happen all the time but enough that it is very annoying.

Firefox 125.0.2 loves hanging (about every 3rd time) in Windows 10 Pro, when I save any document / image. Can't even start to write the file name and obviously not close the "save as..." window. Usually force crashing and restarting the browser solves it, but it's annoying when listening to a podcast on YouTube. I cleared my downloads and checked sync settings, but nothing helps. Using the download link on chrome always works. I wouldn't mind creating a new profile but I really really need my Fx account for password syncing.

This is happening to me since Firefox 150.0 update.

I have NEVER encountered this issue in all the years of using FF. Can't save any image from any site using Windows save dialog. FYI, the attached image shows that FF says the file was saved to that folder, but the file saved is always 0 bytes empty file, so the image is not saved at all.

I have to drag the image to desktop to save the image.

EDIT: Actually, double checking. This is happening with any Windows dialog I open in FF. If I have to upload a file, the dialog crashes. So it isn't just the image save issue, the Windows dialog us just crashing for me on Windows 10 LTSC (21H2).

EDIT 2: This could be a local issue for me, I'm checking it just to be sure now. Might not be FF related.

EDIT 3: Yup. Fixed the issue.

Apparently Microsoft's amazing new update on Windows 10 LTSC broke my ancient SageThumbs desktop app, which hasn't been updated in years and have been on my system since 2024 (when I last re-installed OS). It was corrupting thumbnails, resulting in Explorer crashes. Uninstalled SageThumbs and cleared Thumbnail cache, it fixed the issue. Thanks a lot Microsoft.
