topic Firefox started downloading files while casually using google services? in Discussions

Really unsure where else to put this, mozilla's faq and searching the issue didn't give me anything.

Starting today, whenever I use google services, firefox downloads files like 'init', 'app', 'proxy.html', 'post3.html', and copies upon copies of them. I am not doing anything that would warrant this, I am just using google drive as always. The files themselves contain some java code that I am not nearly tech savvy enough to understand. Merely using DDG search gives similar results as well.

Before this started, firefox informed me of a new security feature, so I suspect it's the cause of it. Unfortunately, I only skimmed the explanation and don't remember what it was called so I can't turn it off. Something about redirecting the traffic source? Please help.
