I have 64-bit 102.9.0 Thunderbird on Win10 setup to 'play a sound' for 'incoming mails'.

It .. Does .. play the sound!! And .. Continues .. to Keep playing the sound every minute or so as long as it's unread.

I have 3 email accounts. So I'll hear a Series of Pings.

I don't want to deal with every single message immediately.

This 'feature' makes Thunderbird rather unusable as a mail client - as I can't get audio notifications .. unless I really Like Chinese Water Torture by .. Pings.

Can you .. Please .. just add an option for 'play a sound' .. Once .. for each new message? Just a checkbox so the 'Default' stays the same for anyone who prefers that?

Hello,
I get the same very annoying bug: alert (sound and snippet) at each verification, I had to disable any notification. (Linux/ubuntu 22.04 version 115.4.3 (64-bit))
Would be great if this bug could be fixed! 🙂

I'm on 128.5.0esr (64-bit) for Linux Debian and I have the same problem. I have had to disable the sound for my sanity. My old version would sound once, then not again until I'd clicked a folder or message. This new behaviour reminds a spoilt cat demanding you feed it.

Anyway, I just can't stand it any more and want rid. My preferred choice is to downgrade to an earlier TB version. Does anyone know which was the last release where alerts behaved? I realise that downgrading may open up security holes, but I want functionality.

Sadly I am not holding any hope at all that Moz://a will ever fix anything they break in Firefox or Thunderbird.

Thanks.

Edit: Apologies to @Shaerif , I meant this as a reply to @TBPowerWannabe

I downgraded to Thunderbird 78.14 (released Sept 2021) yesterday. I would have done it sooner if I was still on Windose, but I didn't know where to start on Debian. It turned out to be fairly easy, but due to two caveats it took me half the day!

Running Debian (Linux) meant I didn't have to uninstall 128.5 either, instead I now have two Thunderbird instances. 78 and 128 each have their own profile and 'maildir' directory. I made sure the profiles are named sensibly too as each instance can see all profiles as they are all stored in profiles.ini in the .thunderbird home directory. This is despite the other program instances being on other drives.

One of the caveats mentioned above was me failing to switch off auto updates for 78 😮. Yup it upgraded almost right away so I had to start from scratch. It was at a version higher than 100 before I'd realised. Auto update is off now for 78 but I've left it on for 128 in hope Moz://a fix this bug some year soon.

Rolling back versions will be frowned upon as it may open up publicised security holes closed in later releases, but on the other hand it's so nice having the alerts working properly again. 😁
