Cool ! And now here is Firefox 112.0.1 (64)! I don't see the point of continuing to make lots of updates when the bookmarks problem is still not solved since version 110. It's like repainting your car while the engine is broken. Ridiculous ! 😠😡

That bug says "intermittently." There's nothing intermittent about it. Since the update, my Windows 10 Pro machine (at a minimum, haven't tried it elsewhere yet) does it every last time. Maddening if one has more than a few bookmarks.

Bookmark Drop Down No Longer Saves Scrolling Location! (Since Firefox 110)

Hi all at Mozilla,

Before the Firefox 110 update, each independent Firefox window remembered the location I had scrolled to when using the Bookmarks dropdown menu, so that when I again clicked on 'Bookmarks' the dropdown scroll was still in the same location where it last left off. This was *crucial* because I have a *lot* of bookmarks and when I drag and drop a new bookmark from the location bar into the Bookmarks dropdown scrolling window, I need the scroll to remember where it was so that I can quickly drop the new bookmark in the correct one of thousands of folders.

If the drop down menu doesn't remember where I left off and defaults to the top of the bookmarks (as it is doing now) I have to drag the new bookmark through a slow downward scroll that often takes *minutes* to execute!

Please fix!

Thanks,

Eric Brooks

SF, CA

In other words, the earliest it will be fixed is Firefox 111, due out March 14th.

----

For someone who needs to open multiple bookmarks sequentially, and uses Ctrl+click or middle-click (with the scroll wheel) to do that, perhaps this combination of settings will be useful. It involves setting Firefox to (1) open bookmarks sent to new tabs in the background and (2) keep the bookmarks menu open when it does that. Here's how:

(A) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

More info on about:config: Configuration Editor for Firefox. Please keep in mind that changes made through this back door aren't fully supported and aren't guaranteed to continue working in the future.

(B) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground and pause while the list is filtered

(C) Double-click the preference to switch the value from false to true

(D) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.bookmarks.openInTabClosesMenu and pause while the list is filtered

(E) Double-click the preference to switch the value from true to false

Now when you Ctrl+click or middle-click a bookmark, Firefox should keep the menu open.

Just an update that may be related? don't know. but while the bug obviously is still being worked on, now there seems to be another issue? Now after today's updates for nightly, the right click option for "Open all bookmarks" option and likewise the "open all in tabs" option are not working at all. Another very useful feature that seems to have died in the latest updates. I can only hope some of this gets resolved. the only option is using an antiquated version of firefox or abandoning ship altogether. as someone above indicated my mouse scroller is likely going to break if this keeps up. I'm using nightly version 112.0a1 (2023-02-23) (64-bit) and still no fix and now another issue. so not lookin good at the moment.

FYI: update: this morning's update (2.24.2023) on nightly now allows me to select the "open all in Tabs" option from the bookmarks folder. The Right Click option to select "Open all bookmarks" in a folder still does not work at all and remains non functional. If it continues like it is I'll create another bug report but would prefer it was resolved on it's own. The bigger issue is still the scrolling one through bookmarks folders and it not keeping it's place.

I don't think anyone would try this on a huge folder like "Other Bookmarks"! In my own case, I used to visit a forum site that was painfully slow. With all six boards bookmarked in the same folder, I could tell Firefox to load them all simultaneously in background tabs and do other things while that happened, rather than having to endure waiting for each one. Of course, you might never need this feature yourself.

Thank you , Firefox, for rendering the Bookmarks completely dysfunctional for all but the simplest of users. I have thousands of bookmarks well organized in folders and sub-folders. Now I cannot reach the bookmarks in the sub-folders beyond the first fly-out because it never shifts the mouse focus to the fly-out sub-folder. This is a CRITICAL ISSUE that makes trying to use my carefully compiled bookmarks nearly impossible. HELP!!!

I'm running the latest version, 110.0.1. It's not that the subfolders don't fly out when hovered over; it's that you can't scroll them once they're open. It apoears that the mouse focus does not shift to the subfolder once it's open. I did find a workaround by turning on the bookmarks sidebar which still works correctly.

Clearly breaking FF was easier than fixing FF. I just downloaded an advanced copy of v113.0a1 and tested the fix against mutliple tabs and windows. Thankfully it seems to work. The downside is that 113.0.a1 is a beta version for developers and anything in the software may not make the final release. Also, the "nightly version" is, itself, a separate browser from standard FF, so you'd have to export your bookmarks from FF and reimport them into "nightly" 113.0a1. The same goes for cookies and other saved data. But, I do a couple things with large menus that cost me time and effort trying to locate my last position, and generally don't care about cookies when I need the function. The stuff I need cookies for I can use the regular version. Anyway, thought I'd share - here's the link to a site that you can download 113.0a1 from:

https://www.softexia.com/web-browsers/firefox-113

Firefox Nightly (2 versions ahead) and Firefox Developer Edition (1 version ahead) can install side-by-side with the regular release for testing. Beta (1 version ahead) may replace your regular installation, which makes it hard to return to normal. Either way, please use official sources for downloads:

https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/channel/desktop/

One of the main reasons I love Firefox is because I have a long list of bookmarks which I go through in order on a daily basis. Previously, after selecting a particular bookmark and navigating to that page, and then clicking the bookmark menu again to select the next page in that list, the dropdown would open at the location of the last selection on the list. Now it doesn't do that any more and defaults back to the top of the list and I have to scroll down each time to the bookmark I want (in other words, it acts just like the Chrome browser).
Can we have this functionality back?

The fix for this problem is currently in beta testing in future Firefox 113. If you want to test Firefox 113 alongside your current installation, the safest way -- it won't overwrite your regular Firefox -- is to install the Firefox Developer Edition from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/developer/.

Cool ! And now here is Firefox 112.0.1 (64)! I don't see the point of continuing to make lots of updates when the bookmarks problem is still not solved since version 110. Ridiculous ! 😠😡

Version 113.0 fixes the bookmark problem but has unfortunately introduced another new problem in which if you view YouTube videos in full screen the video does not cover the full screen but leaves a small boarder at the sides and bottom of the screen (but not the top).
